Microsoft makes Windows 10 Official, Will release Rebranded Bing Apps across iOS and Android soon

Contrary to all the Monikers that surfaced in numerous leaks, Microsoft has named its next iteration of Windows as Windows 10 which combines the best of Windows 7 and 8 together. It’s no secret that Windows 8 was an epic failure for Microsoft and with Windows 10, Microsoft is making amends.

Windows 8 tried to integrate desktop and touch user interface together which didn’t work very well. Microsoft made Windows 8.1 more desktop friendly and now the Windows 10 will carry this approach further.

The start menu is back, and the tiled start screen in Windows 8 is now gone.Unlike Windows 8.1, the start button won’t take you to the tiled start screen but a Windows 7 like menu, with customizable live tiles.

The Windows Store apps will also not take full screen and you can run them within a small window on desktop only. You can also snap more than 2 apps on the screen at one time. This will certainly make using Windows Apps more efficient and unobstructive. Windows store will also support volume license purchasing.

For device management, Windows 10 will support Mobile Device Management tools as well as active directory and system center. To further entice enterprice users, Windows 10 will have Multifactor authentication based on smart cards or tokens built right into OS.

Another features included is Multiple Desktop which allows users to designate desktops for different purposes and effectively switch between them. Other features include universal search in start menu, task view to enhance multi-tasking and new continumm mode to effectively switch between laptop and tablet mode in convertible devices.

Microsoft also rebranded all Bing apps as MSM apps, though the performance remains unchanged. Users who already have these apps installed will have to update them from Windows Store.

With today’s updates, these apps will now have one unified and consistent Azure-powered experience across all these devices to MSN in the cloud. These apps will now be branded to reflect their alignment to the MSN premium experience for content as well as personal productivity features.”

“In the coming months, we will release a suite of MSN apps across iOS and Android to complement today’s release of the Windows and Windows Phone apps. You only need to set your favorites once, and your preferences will be connected across MSN, Cortana, Bing and other Microsoft experiences.”

The Windows 10 preview will be available for download tomorrow and final version will be out sometime later next year. Microsoft says this is just the start and they will announce more Windows 10 feature at the start of next year.
