HTC Desire Eye with 13 MP Selfie Camera Officially Announced

In the past couple of months we have seen a steady stream of selfie centric smartphones from all Major Android OEMs and now, HTC has introduced HTC Desire Eye, with a good quality 13 MP front camera, supported by Dual LED flash and some handy camera software. The large camera module at the front does look weird like an eye.

The Desire Eye is made up of smooth dual toned plastic and the hardware inside is similar to HTC One M8 and One E8, with a slightly smaller 2400 mAh battery. The SLCD3 display is 5.2 Inches in size with full HD 1080p resolution, 423PPI, powered by 2.3 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad core with 2 GB RAM and expandable 16 GB storage.

Camera

The camera is the highlight of this device. There is a 13 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, 28 mm wide angle lens and Dual LED flash. The front camera isn’t much different. It sports a 13 MP sensor, f/2.2 aperture, 22 mm wide angle lens and also dual LED flash.

Though the same results can be achieved with a swivel camera we have seen in the likes of Oppo N1, but HTC believes a dedicated high end front shooter is bound to make your life simpler.

HTC Eye Experience

To enhance your front camera experience HTC has introduced some software features which together constitute “HTC Eye Experience”. The face tracking feature ensures that faces of up to 4 users stay in focus during video call. Split capture lets you combine images from front and rear camera and Crop Me let’s you merge yourself in the scenes captured from the rear camera.

You can simply say “smile” to take a selfie. Saying Action will start video recording. Features like Face fusion and live makeup which were present in Desire 820 are also part of the new phone. HTC Eye Experience will be transferred to other existing Desire series smartphones as well via OTA update.

Apart from Desire Eye, HTC also introduced a periscope shaped RE cameras. HTC Desire Eye will be available in Matt White and Submarine Blue colors starting this month in EMEA, Asia and the US. There is no word on the price yet, but the handset is expected to retail somewhere between Mid range and high end price range.
