MediaTek has today announced another 64 Bit SoC, the MT6735 with cat 4 4G LTE. The chipset includes 4 Cortex A53 cores (64 bit equivalent of cortex A7) ticking at 1.5 GHz. From the specifications this looks like a SoC for lower mid range and Budget smartphones.
“The MT6735 is a breakthrough product from MediaTek. With CDMA2000, we offer global reach, driving high performance technology into the hands of users everywhere. We also strongly believe that as LTE becomes mainstream in all markets, the processing power must be consistently high to ensure the best possible user experience. That’s why 64-bit CPUs and CorePilotTM technology are standard features across all of our LTE solutions.” Said Jeffrey Ju, SVP and General Manager of Wireless Communication at MediaTek
Graphics will be handled by Mali-T760 GPU with support for the Open GL ES 3.0 and Open CL 1.2 APIs. Up to 13 MP camera is supported by ISP with PIP (Picture-in-Picture), VIV (Video in Video) and Video Face Beautifier. 1080P video recording at 30fps is also supported.
MT6735 phones will have up to 720p HD display. On the HD display you can play up to 1080p videos at 60fps. Both TDD LTE and FDD LTE are supported.
Other features include dual-band Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, MediaTek ClearMotion technology for smooth video playback at 60fps, Comprehensive RF support (B1 to B41) and the ability to mix multiple low-, mid-, and high bands for a global roaming solution. The prospects of 64 bit Cortex A53 cores in affordable price range is definitely exciting. Coupled with Android L running ART runtime, we can expect noticeable improvement in performance and battery efficiency.
