Nokia Lumia 730 India Hands on Review, Camera, Features, Price, Software and Overview[Video]

Design, Build and Display

The Lumia 730 is a compact Lumia phone which does remind us of Lumia 630 at least from the front side. It’s easy to hold in hand and appears quite sturdy, but yes, it makes no pretence of being what it is not- a premium phone. It’s a mid range device with good quality polycarbonate, good enough to get the job done without anything that particularly stands out. We had the mate finish black colour variant with us and this seems a tad bit better than the Glossy variant (a matter of personal taste).

We liked the display on Lumia 730. It’s a good quality Super AMOLED panel with awesome blacks and also good whites. For someone who usually keeps distance from Super AMOLED panel because of the slight blue tint, I wouldn’t mind living with the Lumia 730 display one bit. The HD resolution display is also what makes Lumia 730 more pleasant than Lumia 630.

The ClearBlack display noticeably enhances outdoor visibility and their Gorilla Glass 3 protection as well to make it extremely resistant to daily wear and tear. Touch is also very sensitive.

Processor and RAM

The processor is the same 1.2 GHz quad core SoC (Cortex A7) with 1 GB RAM. The same chipset (with 512 MB RAM) was good enough to steer FWVGA resolution and the first thing we wanted to notice was, will it be as snappy while pumping more 1280 x 720 pixels? Yes, it handles the increased resolution with great efficiency.

Camera and Internal Storage

Microsoft is using a 6.7 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera for selfies with wide angle lens. The front selfie camera is the major thing that Microsoft is highlighting for Lumia 730. It works as promised and manages to capture more in single frame, but don’t expect magical results. In proper light settings the front camera is capable of capturing great selfies.

The rear camera renders good colors and is a decent performer. Under low lighting conditions the camera performance dwindled a few times. Comparing it with other smartphones in the same price range, this should lie closer to the top end of the spectrum. Camera App UI is quite simple.

Internal storage is 8 GB (4.5 GB available at user end) and you can further expand it by another 128 GB using MicroSD card slot. You can transfer and directly install apps to SD card. The storage should be good enough for all users.

User Interface and Battery

User interface is latest Windows 8.1 with Denim update enhancements pre-installed. You can easily manage tiles and make folders on home-screen, while keeping background of your choice. Navigation keys are software buttons and show up with a swipe up gesture. The software is well matched with the hardware.

Battery capacity is 2200 mAh and based on our first few days of usage, battery backup is impressive. Even with heavy usage, Lumia 730 managed to comfortably last a day.

Conclusion

Lumia 730 is a ‘good value for money’ Windows Smartphone. It might not be the best looking one, but if you are looking for a Windows Phone device, Lumia 730 won’t disappoint you with regards to hardware and performance. Also if you are looking for a selfie centric smartphone, Lumia 730 is one of the best mid range options which you can opt for.
