On the heels of Lava Iris X5, Lava has launched another selfie focused smartphone in India, dubbed as Lava Iris Selfie 50, priced at 7,699 INR. Apart from being obsessive with selfies, Lava Iris Selfie 50 also features an HD display, quad core chipset and Android 4.4 KitKat. Let’s take a closer look at the hardware.
Camera and Internal Storage
Lava Iris Selfie 50 has a 5 MP front facing camera with LED flash, similar to Lava Iris X5. This is an Auto Focus unit unlike fixed focus front snappers conventionally seen in most smartphones. The rear 8 MP camera has a BSI sensor along with dual LED flash for better low light performance. You can record up to 720p HD videos.
Internal storage is standard 8 GB along with the option for 32 GB MicroSD expansion. This should be sufficient for most basic user and is the most that you can expect at this price range. You can also keep games, application and media files on SD card.
Processor and Battery
Lava Iris Selfie 50 is powered by 1.2 GHz Quad core chipset aided by 1 GB RAM. Its most likely Broadcom BCM23550 SoC (same one we saw in Iris X5) but Lava hasn’t specified any details regarding the chipset. Most other smartphones ship with better MT6582 quad core SoC clocked at 1.3 GHz. We will update you with more info on the same when it’s confirmed.
Battery capacity is 2400 mAh, which is beefier than what we usually see in budget quad core phones. you can expect around one day backup with moderate usage.
Display and Other Features
Lava Iris Selfie 50 comes with a fully laminated 5 inch 720p HD display which isn’t very common but not completely unheard of at these prices. Other current generation devices which match its ppi count include Huawei Honor Holly and Xiaomi Redmi 1S.
Software is Android 4.4 KitKat while other features include Dual SIM functionality, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, USB and 3G/Edge connectivity. The handset is 9.2 mm thick and will retail in Black, white and Blue color options in India.

Conclusion
Lava Iris Selfie 50 primarily focuses on its unconventional selfie camera with other hardware being quite conventional. 5 Inch HD display is another bonus you get at a very nominal price. The black and white variant is available 7,699 INR and shiny blue color variant with an IML finish will be available later at Rs. 7,899. Lava has also focused on design aesthetics with Iris Selfie 50, and this along with a bigger battery is what differentiates it from Lava Iris X5.
