ZTE Nubia Z7 Mini Hands on, Camera, Features, Comparison and Overview

Design, Build and Display

With Nubia Z7 Mini, is neither mini nor compact. It’s a full fledged, feature loaded 5 Inch display device, with a matte finish back tat tapers around the edges. Design wise, it was more appealing to our taste as compared to Grand S II which was also showcased along side. In spite of OIS, there is no camera bump on the back side. Hardware buttons are on right side and are easily accessible.

Nubia Z7 Mini feels substantial in hand with 8.2 mm thick body weighing a moderate 143 grams. The 5 Inch full HD 5 point multi touch Display is lined by capacitive navigation keys on the bottom. Gorilla Glass 3 is also present. The home button is a red circle while other two are backlit red dots which enhance the look and feel. The display is a sharp and good quality IPS LCD panel with great colors and viewing angles.

Processor and RAM

The phone is powered by flagship grade 2.0 GHz Snapdragon 801 quad core SoC with 2 GB RAM and this makes its powerful enough to handle everything you throw at it. UI transitions were very snappy and we expect this to hold in the long run.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 13 MP Exmor RS camera with F 2.0 aperture turned out to be pretty good performer in our initial time with the device. The camera supports optical image stabilization to offset vibrations. Camera app allows you to turn off shutter sound. All basic modes are there. The 5 MP selfie camera will suffice for good quality video calling.

Internal storage is 16 GB and you can further expand it by another 64 GB using MicroSD card support. This is again should be good enough for most users.

User Interface and Battery

The phone runs on Android 4.4 KitKat with a customized UI on top. Notification panel has several toggles to make your life simpler, there is a pocket profile to avoid pocket dials and other accidental touches while the phone rests in your pocket, tool box and several other features you could use. We liked the icons and color theme used.

Battery capacity is 2300 mAh and we expect this to be just right considering the processor and display. We will know for sure when we have spend more time with the device.

Conclusion

ZTE Nubia Z7 Mini is a wholesome smartphone with powerful hardware and feature rich software. We liked the design, display and camera of the device and are eager to spend more time with it. On the downside, there is no word on Android 5.0 Lollipop update and no confirmation on when ZTE plans on bringing this to India.
