Celkon Win 400 Quick Review, Price and Comparison

Celkon was long rumored to be working on a Windows Phone based smartphone. Last week, the vendor announced the Celkon Win 400 smartphone with the Microsoft mobile platform for a luring price tag of Rs 4,999. The device is based on the Qualcomm Reference Design and it is exclusively available via the e-commerce portal Snapdeal. Following this move, Celkon joins the existing fleet of India based Windows Phone device manufacturers including Micromax, Karbonn and Xolo. Here is a quick review on the Celkon offering to know about its hardware capabilities.

Camera and Internal Storage

The Celkon Win 400 incorporates a 5 MP primary snapper at its back teamed up with LED flash that will render a great low light performance. Also, there is a 1.3 MP front facing selfie shooter that should be capable of video conferencing. Of course, the photography aspects of the smartphone are not too high end, but they are acceptable considering the price the device asks.

In terms of storage, the Win 400 disappoints us with a mere 4 GB of native storage capacity. Though this storage capacity would not suffice to save any content other than very few applications, there is a micro SD card slot onboard that supports expandable storage up to 32 GB. While the 4 GB of storage space is annoying, there are similar offerings in the entry-level market segment making it a standard aspect.

Processor and Battery

Celkon Win 400 is powered by a 1.3 GHz quad core Snapdragon 200 processor that comes paired with 512 MB of RAM. This hardware combo should be rendering a moderate performance that we can expect from a sub Rs 5,000 priced smartphone without much hassle and the Windows Phone platform can easily sail through it.

The battery used in the device is a 1,500 mAh unit that is rated to pump in up to 5 hours of talk time and up to 200 hours of standby time. The low backup is a downside, but many other low end smartphones come with similar capacities making this one an average device in the market.

Display and Features

Celkon has bestowed the handset with a 4 inch IPS display that boasts of a WVGA screen resolution of 480×800 pixels. This screen size and resolution are pretty common in the entry level smartphone segment and we cannot expect better traits from a low priced device.

Running on Windows Phone 8.1 operating system that is resource efficient, the Celkon Win 400 comes packed with standard connectivity aspects including 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and micro USB.

Comparison

The Celkon Win 400 will land up in a competition with Micromax Canvas Win W092, Xolo Win Q900s, Karbonn Titanium Wind W4 and Asus Zenfone 4.

Price and Conclusion

Celkon has priced the Win 400 attractively at Rs 4,999 making it an affordable Windows Phone based smartphone for those who do not wish to spend too much. The decent hardware aspects of the handset should be capable of delivering a decent performance that we expect from an entry level offering in this price bracket. The handset should be capable of luring the first time smartphone buyers as it would provide a great value for the money they pay.
