Xolo today launched Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 in India via Twitter. Both of these Octa core smartphone managed to garner enough attention owing to meticulous design and value for money hardware. After 8x-1000, Xolo is returning with Hive UI in its Omega devices after a break. Let’s take a look at the hardware Xolo is offering.
Camera and Internal Storage
The Omega 5.0 features an 8 MP Sony Exmor RS rear camera with LED flash. For just 1,000 INR more, the Omega 5.5 will offer a more detailed 13 MP Exmor RS sensor. On the smartphone screen, difference in pixel count shouldn’t make much of a difference. You can record 1080p Full HD videos from the rear camera. Front camera is standard 2 MP which should be good enough for basic video calls.
Internal storage is 8 GB out of which around 6 GB is free for apps and other data. You can further increase this by another 32 GB using microSD card slot. The storage is good enough in this price range.
Processor and Battery
Xolo has provided with 1.4 GHz octa core MT6592M chipset, backed by 1 GB RAM and Mali 450 MP4 GPU. Since most handsets in this price range ship with MT6582 quad core SoC, you can expect some performance boost in Xolo Omega.
Battery capacity is 2100 mAh and Xolo claims 675 hours of standby time and 22 hours of talk time on 2G, which sounds impressive. 3G web browsing time is around 4 hours and you can play up to 6 hours of videos on the display. Battery charge time is 2 hours 45 minutes. The battery, however, is not removable.
Display and Other features
As the name suggests, Omega 5.0 comes with a 5 inch IPS LCD display with 1280x 720 pixels spread across it. Specifications wise, this is the most you can expect in this price range.
Omega 5.0 sports a curved rear surface design with a metal rim running along its edges. Software is Android 4.4 Kitkat with Xolo Hive UI on top. Xolo’s own Hive UI allows for plenty of customization options. Xolo has also confirmed Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade for all Hive UI based devices.
