Xolo Confirms Android Lollipop Update for Omega and HIVE Devices

As announced, Xolo unveiled the Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 smartphones with the HIVE UI on Twitter in a series of tweets. The handsets are based on Android 4.4 KitKat and it is it announced that they will receive the Android 5.0 Lollipop update soon.

Soon after the announcement of these handsets, Xolo has confirmed that all the HIVE users including the new Omega smartphone users will be getting the Lollipop update and that they will disclose all information about the same in the coming weeks. This confirmation from the vendor was done via Twitter in response to the question asked by a user on when the Omega handsets will receive the update.

To remind you of the HIVE UI, the interface was launched by the vendor in August on the Xolo Play 8X-1000 to take over Android as the Chinese makers including Xiaomi and Oppo have done with their MIUI and Color OS respectively. When it comes to the new features of the HIVE UI, there is a new launcher, downloadable themes via Edge that is a special store meant for themes, wallpapers and ringtones that are created by the Indian artists.

Also, HIVE UI comes with Connect, a feature that allows users to connect with the software development team to report about real time bugs. There are several custom widgets and applications including Fusion X for a centralized entertainment experience. Other notable additions of the new UI include the new contacts app that is integrated with Facebook, overhauled gallery app and Chameleon widget for calendar, SMS, email, notifications on weather and more.


Xolo announced the Omega 5.0 for a pricing of Rs 8,999 and the Omega 5.5 for Rs 9,999. It is claimed that the Omega 5.0 and Omega 5.5 will be made available starting from December 10 and December 20 respectively.
