Back in September 2014, Dell introduced the Venue 8 7840 tablet that carries the credits of being the world’s slimmest slate measuring a mere 6 mm in thickness. Now, the slate has been listed for sale in the US market via BestBuy for a pricing of $399.99. The vendor is yet to announce the availability of the tablet in the global markets.
To refresh on its specifications, the Dell Venue 8 7840 is based on Android 4.4 KitKat operating system and flaunts an 8.4 inch OLED display with a screen resolution of 2560×1600 pixels. Under its hood, there is an Intel Atom Z3580 processor ticking at 2.3 GHz clock speed. This processor is assisted by PowerVR G6430 graphics unit and 2 GB of RAM for multitasking.
The imaging hardware of the Dell Venue 8 7840 comprises of an 8 MP primary camera at the back and a 2 MP front facing selfie camera for video conferencing both with support to HD 720p video recording. There is 16 GB of native storage capacity in the Dell Venue 8 7840 tablet and it can be expanded externally using a micro SD card. Other goodies of the tablet include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 for connectivity and a 5,670 mAh battery.
Besides technical specifications, the Dell Venue 8 7840 comes with the Intel RealSense Snapshot Depth Camera providing depth mapping, 3D editing and measurements using the front and rear snappers onboard the slate. This feature makes use of the cameras that work in conjunction to triangulate the distance between objects in a snap, to refocus after clicking the snap and other aspects.
