Chip maker MediaTek announced its collaboration with Google that will be possible with Google Android TV software integration the former’s MT5595 SoC. Notably, Android TV is being demonstrated by both Google and MediaTek at the CES 2015 happening in Las Vegas.
Android TV is used to watch movies and shows from Google Play, play Android games on Ultra HTV and stream favorite apps, all using content voice search. Moreover, all Android TVs are Google Cast Ready allowing users to cast their favorite entertainment content from a mobile device or laptop on to Ultra HD TVs.
MediaTek MT5595 quad core chipset is based on big.LITTLE architecture and incorporates two high performance ARM Cortex A17 and two ultra efficient ARM Cortex A7 processors. This way, the chipset is capable of rendering superior user experience at the most optimal power consumption. Moreover, the chipset carries the highlight of being the world’s first TV SoC supporting Google VP9 and HEVC codecs designed for streaming 4K and 2K content at 60 frames per second for a smooth playback experience. It also comes with MediaTek’s proprietary ClearMotion for up-conversion of videos with low frame rates.
MediaTek has already debuted with the mass production of the MT5595 chipset. We can expect the MediaTek powered Android TV devices to be launched commercially by March 2015.
