Google Maps will Now Tell you Which Lane to Drive in

Google has today added a new lane guidance feature for Google Maps on Android and iOS based devices in India. This new feature is available for 20 major cities across India. Those who use Google Maps for navigation will also get voice guidance regarding which lane they should be driving in.

This means, you won’t have to miss a turn, just because you are in the wrong lane and there is no time to switch. As Delhiites we can certainly appreciate this feature.

With a highway, service road and an underpass ahead, Google Maps can get really confusing when they tell you to move straight. You only realize you have missed a turn when it’s too late. Knowing in advance, the correct lane to stick to, will be a great benefit in cities with complicated road networks.

Besides Delhi, lane guidance will also be available in Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Chandigarh, Chennai, Coimbatore, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Mysore, Nagpur, Pune, Surat, Thiruvananthapuram, Vadodara and Visakhapatnam.

These lane guidance instructions will be available in English and Hindi language. You can select from the above two languages from Phone Settings>>language and inputs, and Google Maps will guide you in the language of your choice.

Commenting on the launch, Suren Ruhela, Director Product and Program Management, Google said, “Our goal is to continue making Google Maps for mobile into a handy travel companion for your daily commutes and trips around India, and we hope the new lane guidance will help make road travels easier to navigate for English and Hindi speaker across the country.”
