Asus started 2015 with a bang. The Zenfone 2 showcased at CES last month is something which can potentially reignite and redefine value for money concept for budget Android smartphones. The good news is, that the new Zenfone might not be that far off from India launch.
The Asus Zenfone 2 ZE551ML has been listed on Asus India support website along with some Faqs, drivers and documentation. Let’s take a look at the hardware of Zenfone 2 which makes it such a big deal.
The 5.5 Inch display on Zenfone 2 flaunts 1080 x 1920 Full HD resolution and is layered with Gorilla Glass 3 protection. Asus has significantly shaved off side bezels too. While on the rear side, Brushed metal finish is not the only similarity with LG G3. The rear key style Volume rocker is also present below the camera lens.
Asus will launch two models powered by 2.3 GHz Intel Atom Z3580 and 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z2560 with 4 GB and 2 GB RAM respectively. Asus claims that the PowerVR G6430 GPU handling the graphics will be 8 times as powerful as conventional GPUs in this class.
On the rear side, there is a 13 MP F/2.0 camera with HDR mode, Manual mode and True Tone Flash. The 5 MP selfie camera has an 85 degree field of view and can also capture 140 degree Panoramic selfies.

All hardware will be powered by a capacious 3000 mAh battery. Three Internal storage variants (16 GB/ 32 GB/ 64 GB) each with 64 GB MicroSD support are a possibility depending on market. The base variant will start from just $199 or Approx 12,000 INR. That would make this Android Lollipop running smartphone a solid Moto G competitor.
Asus earlier announced that it will be available starting from second quarter of 2015. Now we have even more reason to believe that India will be among the first set of countries to receive Zenfone 2.
