Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G Hands on, Photo Gallery and Video

Samsung today introduced 4 new 4G LTE smartphones in India. The software remains same across all these phones and the hardware and external looks progressively improves all the way from Galaxy J1 4G to Galaxy A7, which is undoubtedly the best looking among these. The Galaxy Grand Prime 4G lies somewhere in the better half and you can easily notice subtle improvements and differences. Outside Samsung’s own well, will it be up for the task?

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G Hands On Review, Camera, Features, India Price and Overview [Video]

Design, Build and Display

The design is same as most Samsung smartphones that we have seen, though it’s a bit more polished. The camera on the back surface is flanked by LED flash and speakers on either side. The back cover looks Glossy but has a Matte feel, which means it will attract very few finger prints.

Audio lack is present on the top and MicroUSB port on the bottom. So on the outside, Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is more of the usual stuff.

The display is 5 inches in size with TFT 960 x 540 pixel resolution resulting in 220 pixels per inches. Of course it isn’t as sharp as 400+ ppi display, but lack of pixels isn’t that apparent and shouldn’t be a deal breaker unless you are accustomed to high ppi displays. Other compromises include lack of display protection, lack of auto brightness and lack of backlit softkeys.

Processor and RAM

Processor used is 64 bit 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 410 with Cortex A53 cores, which are expected to outperform Cortex A7 cores in Snapdragon 400 and it will be assisted by more power efficient Adreno 306 GPU. You can expect good day to day performance from the SoC which will further improve once Samsung upgrades it to 64 bit Android 5.0 Lollipop. Out of 1 GB RAM

Camera and Internal Storage

Galaxy Grand Prime 4G comes with an 8 MP rear camera and a 5 MP front camera which can be used for full HD video recording. The rear camera seems pretty decent, but we are more intrigued by the front 5 MP shooter designed for sulfides, with an 85 degree wide angle lens on top. As for the rear camera, the colors seemed quite adequate and noise didn’t seem much.

Internal storage is 8 GB out of which 4.13 GB is available to users and you can further expand this by another 64 GB using MicroSD card support. Storage seems average and its acceptability will depend on actual price tag.

User Interface and Battery

Like other Samsung phones we saw today, Galaxy Grand Prime 4G is running Android 4.4.4 Kitkat with touch wiz UI on top. Software is responsive and supports cellular video calling. TouchWiz skin on top is feature rich and light. Samsung will also provide Android 5.0 Lollipop upgrade sometime later.

Battery capacity is 2600 mAh which sounds good enough. We don’t know how long that will last in day to day usage, but with Samsung expertise in this area, there is no reason to be cynical. Ultra Power saving mode is also present for critical conditions.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime 4G sounds like an average mid range smartphone from Samsung camp. Carrying forward the legacy of Grand series, this one too has a phablet sized display with some mediocre specifications. If Samsung manages to keep the price around 15 K, the handset will be preferred by Samsung fans in this price range.
