Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 4G Hands On, Photo Gallery and Video

Core series devices have always worked well for South Korean Android Giant. These devices are often just what budget conscious buyers, looking for Brand value end up with in India. Samsung has today launched 4G LTE variant, dubbed as Galaxy Core Prime 4G LTE in India, though the price still remains a secret. Here are our initial impressions.

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime 4G Hands On Review, Camera, Features, India Price and Overview [Video]

Design, Build and Display

The 8.9 mm thick Galaxy Core Prime has the same usual Samsung Galaxy design, which has been around for a while and perhaps requires a refresh. Besides the same S3 design, Samsung is using the same plastic on the back panel, as other 4 smartphones introduced. It’s shiny and looks glossy, but feels better.

Entire body, including the rim on the side edges is plastic, but it doesn’t feel flimsy or tacky at all. The phone is sturdy and solid. Galaxy Core Prime allows you to use both dual SIM and MicroSD card slot simultaneously.

The 4.5 Inch display is not protected by any toughened glass and is also missing ambient light sensor, thus no auto brightness mode is present. The display seems ok. It is not an IPS LCD panel, but viewing angles are decent. Color seems a little washed out. On the whole, it leaves us wanting for a lot more.

Processor and RAM

image

Snapdragon 410 quad core seems to be definite improvement to core lineup. The 64 bit chipset with 4 Cortex A53 cores will be assisted by 1 GB RAM and Adreno 306 GPU. Out of 1 GB, 353 MB is available a user end. The chipset is similar to what Samsung is offering with Galaxy Grand Prime 4G. This should be good enough for day to day usage and moderate gaming.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 5 MP camera can record HD videos. Both the rear 5 MP camera and 2 MP front camera are average performers. There is no HDR mode but there is plenty of other modes to play with including panorama, Best photo and continuous shot.

Internal storage is 8 GB, which can be further extended by another 64 GB using MicroSD card slot. Out of 8 GB, more than 5 GB is available at user end.

User Interface and Battery

Samsung Galaxy Core Prime runs Android 4.4.4 KitKat out of the box with a trimmed down TouchWiz skin on top. TouchWiz has evolved for the better last year and it’s new version for mid range devices seems to be well optimized for efficiency. Without Android 5.0 Lollipop and ART Runtime, users won’t fully benefit from 64 bit SoC.

Battery capacity is 2000, which again sounds good enough for one day moderate usage. We will have to spend some more time with it to know for sure how long this will hold. A power saving mode is also present to help you sail through tough times.

Conclusion

Samsung Galaxy Core is not a ground breaking mid range smartphone by any means, and there are lot of reasons why you shouldn’t be bothered by it. If priced right, this could be good Samsung alternative to battle Moto G. A better display and Camera would have made it a better recommendation.
