Microsoft Lumia 640 Hands on, Photos and Video

Sincerely working on this philosophy, Microsoft has presented Lumia 640 and Lumia 640 XL, with most prominent difference between the two being display size.

Lumia 640 Hands on Review, Camera, Features, Price and Comparion with 640 XL

Design, Build and Display

It’s the familiar sturdy slab like (8.8 mm thick) Lumia design, which Microsoft/Nokia fans can cherish. The back shells are removable, glossy and offer several bright color options to choose from. Since this is a low end device, it won’t be fair to expect an innovative overhaul.

The rear shell attracts smudges and scratches, but you always remove and replace it. There is nothing much going on the rear side, and on the front side, the main attraction is 5 Inch ClearBlack HD display with great blacks seamlessly merging with black bezels (no shortage of those) and lined by three software navigation keys at the bottom. The IPS LCD panel with good colors and viewing angles is the main contributor to aesthetics.

Processor and RAM

image

Lumia 640 uses a 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor with 1 GB RAM. This is enough horsepower to smoothly sail Windows 8.1 OS, and so we confirmed in our initial time with the device. Since Microsoft assures that the chipset won’t be obstacle in receiving and running Windows 10, there is not much reason to complain about.

Camera and Internal Storage

You can record 720p Videos from the 8 MP rear camera, which seemed to perform good in low lighting. We also liked the clarity on 1 MP selfies camera even though we tested it in low light condition. Other camera features include dynamic flash. It’s a good enough camera in low light conditions.

Internal storage is 8 GB, similar to all other budget Lumia phones that we have come across. Since apps can be transferred to SD card and as there is ample 128 GB SD card storage supported, this shouldn’t be a deal breaker either.

User Interface and Battery

User interface is Windows 8.1 with denim update preinstalled. Features include Cortana, home screen folders, nice keyboard, internet sharing and more. Microsoft has confirmed Windows 10 upgrade for the smartphone and that makes it future proof.

Battery capacity is 2500 mAh which is again very good. The battery is removable and replaceable as well. we will comment more on the battery backup after our full review, but we are optimistic about the backup.

Conclusion

Lumia 640 is similar to other Lumia devices on the outside, but the good quality ClearBlack display, decent battery, capable imaging hardware and powerful chipset makes it an admirable successor to Lumia 630. All Microsoft services and free Office 365 subscription are some extra cherries on top to help you make up your mind.
