Samsung has launched two flagship phones – The Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge, with new improved design, representing exactly what Samsung needs to put its S series back on track. Samsung has indeed built these devices from ground up to make them different from anything you have seen from Samsung camp so far, and by a margin.
There is Gorilla Glass 4 on both front and back panels, and metal everywhere in between. This also means battery won’t be removable anymore and unfortunately, there is no MicroSD card slot either – The two advantages Samsung has been banking upon for years.
The home button has been put to good use, it integrates a fingerprint sensor and double pressing it fires rear camera in just 0.7 seconds.
The Galaxy S6 is just 6.8 mm thick, while the Galaxy S6 Edge is just 7 mm. The Galaxy Edge 6 doesn’t use the side edge like Note 4. There are some subtle swipe in features you can fire from the edge like contact manager, missed calls. Apart from the curved side edges on both sides in S6 Edge, the two variants are very similar from the inside.
The Super AMOLED display is 5.1 Inches in sizes with QHD (2560×1440) resolution amounting to insane 577 ppi. It remains to be seen how well these extra pixels will be handled by 2550 mAh battery on S6 and 2600 mAh on S6 edge. Both smartphones support rapid charging and come with customary Ultra power saving mode.
Samsung is using more power efficient 14 nm process based Exynos 7420 to deliver power efficient and flagship grade performance. The chipset includes four 2.1 GHz Cortex A57 cores coupled with 4 Cortex A53 Cores clocked at 1.5 GHz. RAM capacity is 3 GB and internal storage will be 32 GB/ 64 GB/ 128 GB depending on what variant you choose.
Both S6 and S6 Edge will flaunt a new 16MP camera with smart OIS, with new IR white balance, F1.9 lens and fast tracking autofocus. Samsung claims better low light performance than iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. A 5 MP camera is present on the front side for selfies.
Software is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop, and is a toned down version of TouchWiz, but doesn’t eliminates Bloatware as aggressively as was suggested by countless rumors. Samsung Galaxy S6 will be available in white pearl, black sapphire, gold platinum and blue Topaz colors.
