Micromax Canvas Spark has been introduced in India and will be competing in separate league compared to other budget flash sale exclusives. By pricing it at 4,999 INR Micromax has wisely saved it from losing market share to formidable competition and it is now standing tall above other entry level phones in its price. Let’s take a look at the hardware.

Camera and Internal Storage

Micromax Canvas Spark employs an 8 MP OV Sensor camera with a largan lens on top, paired with LED flash. A 2 MP camera is also present for selfies. Since most other phones offer a 5 MP rear/ VGA front camera combination in this price range, It would be hard for Micromax Canvas Spark to disappoint. Both front and rear camera come with a face beauty mode. You can record 720p HD video from the rear camera.

Internal storage is standard 8 GB, and out of this 4.5 GB is available at user end for apps and other data. This can be further expanded by another 32 GB using MicroSD card slot. This is good enough in this price range.

Processor and Battery

The chipset used is MT6582 Quad Core clocked at 1.3 GHz and aided with 1 GB RAM. By now the chipset has been used in numerous budget Android phones including Android One phones. Basic and moderate users can expect smooth day to day performance without any hiccups. The chipset can play 720p videos at 15fps.


Battery capacity is 2000 mAh and Micromax claims 335 hours of standby time and 7 hours of maximum talk time which is above average.

Display and Other Features

The display used is 4.7 Inches in size with 960 x 540 pixels spread acorss it. It is not a PPI busting display (234 ppi) but is reasonably sharp. The display also earns some extra points for Gorilla Glass 3 protection on top.

Software is Android 5.0 Lollipop and other features include Dual SIM support, 3G HSPA+, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0 and GPS. The Handset is 8.5 mm thick and is quite light at 134 grams. On the sides, a metallic finish rim is present in Gold and Silver colors.

The highest SAR value tested for this phone model is 0.29 W/kg @ 1g (Head) W/kg @ 1 g(Head) and 0.42 W/kg @ 1g (Body) W/Kg @ 1g(Body).

Micromax Canvas Spark will compete against phones like Xiaomi Redmi 1S, Intex Cloud M6, Android One Phones and Moto E.

Micromax Canvas Spark Q380 looks like a great deal for the asking price, but yes, by spending couple of thousand extra, you can get a better deal.
