4 Asus Zenfone 2 Variants in India – Similarities and Differences

There is a lot of confusion regarding Zenfone 2 models in India, as they are different from what Asus unveiled globally and from what was anticipated prior to the launch event. The confusion is further accentuated by the fact that the top three models share the same model number, but have different hardware. All the 4 zenfone models are scattered between 12,999 INR and 22,999 INR and don’t differ externally in terms of design and dimensions either. Before we proceed, take a look at the specification table below.

Display and Processor

The display size is same for all Zenfone variants but the resolution of the ZE550ML is HD instead of Full HD. There will be a difference in sharpness, though it won’t be well pronounced. Less number of pixels on the display will also render a positive impact on battery performance. All displays are protected by Gorilla Glass 3 layer on top.

2 variants have 2.3 GHz  Intel Atom Z3580 chip with 4 GB RAM and the lower two have 1.8 GHz Intel Atom Z3560 Chip with 2 GB RAM. simple. It is hard to judge real world performance difference between the two as we have tested only 2.3 GHz Z3580 4GB RAM variant so far, but theoretically we don’t expect it to be much.

Camera and Internal Storage

Fortunately, you will get the same 13 MP with wide aperture lens and a 5 MP wide angle front camera in all Zenfone variants. In the 19,999 INR ZE551ML, the camera performance is very decent.

Internal storage is what primarily differentiate these different variants. The 22,999 INR and 19,999 INR models differ only in terms of internal storage (64 GB VS 32 GB). The other two come with 16 GB on board. The good thing is, each model offers 64 GB expandable storage option and allows you to transfer apps on SD card.

Battery and Other Features

All zenfone 2 models come with 3000 mAh battery, which lasted for about a day on the 19,999 INR variant. Since the low end model has lesser display resolution and lowest CPU clock frequency, it will have slightly better backup, though the difference won’t be much in day to day usage.

All share the same Android 5.0 Lollipop based Zen UI and are expected to be updated to later lollipop versions soon. Connectivity options and other features too remain same across all Zenfone 2 variants.

Conclusion

As you can see, all Zenfone Variants are more similar than different. The 64 GB variant is still not listed on Flipkart, but other are up for pre-order. As was anticipated prior to the launch, there is no 5 Inch ZE550CL variant for Zenfone 2 in India as of now. From our time with 32 GB variant, we do like what Asus is offering in second generation Zenfones.
