Micromax Yu Yuphoria Hands on Overview, Camera, Features, Price and Everything Else

Design, Build and Display

It is clear that Yu felt an earnest need to clad Yuphoria in metal and thus, we have rounded sandblasted metal running around the edges, which isn’t continuous and is interrupted on top and bottom center where it momentarily paves way for rubber, to facilitate easier implantation of MicroUSB port (bottom) and Audio jack (top).

The metal looks good, imparts decent heft to Yuphoria and makes it sturdy. Mostly phones are damaged from around the edges, and the metal frame should save Yuphoria from a few drops. On the right edge, metallic power key is flanked by volume up and volume down button on either side. Hardware keys give decent feedback, but the button placement will take some getting used to.

The back side is made of matte plastic and houses a large camera ring, YU branding with “Assembled in India” subscript and speaker grill.

The front side has 5 Inch HD IPS LCD display, but there are no capacitive buttons below the display. Software navigation keys with black background make the vertical bezel look beefier than they should.

The touch is smooth and responsive and is not a smudge magnet. The quality of display is good though colors don’t pop as on Yureka. Display colors are slightly towards warmer side, but there is nothing to put you off. LED notification light is not present.

Processor and RAM

The processor used is Snapdragon 410 quad core clocked at 1.2 GHz. The chipset is aided by Adreno 306 GPU and 2 GB RAM, out of which little less than 800 MB is free on first boot. The phone feels very fast in our initial testing and considering the software and free RAM, this is expected to hold in the long run. Snappy performance should be Yuphoria’s biggest advantages, but we will talk more on performance after our full review.

Camera and Internal Storage

The rear 8 MP camera with large pixels and wide aperture lens is a decent 8 MP shooter, though not exceptional. In our initial testing, there was slight motion blur in low light shots, but again it is too soon to write it off just yet. The front 5 MP camera on the front side seems to be a very good performer.

Internal storage is 16 GB out of which around 11 GB is available on the user end. You can use up to 32 GB MicroSD card too, but USB OTG is not supported.

Battery and Other Features

Battery capacity is 2230 mAh and a battery saver mode is also present. We will have to spend some more time with the device to be sure about the battery backup, but we are expecting one day of moderate usage. Good thing is that battery supports rapid charging.

The Cyanogen OS 12 ROM integrates stock lollipop design and adds several useful features which you would enjoy. Bloatware is minimal. Those who like to toggle with every aspect of their device and also productivity oriented users will love the software on Yuphoria.

Conclusion

Yuphoria is a sturdy device, and yes, for a price of 6,999 INR, it is a great deal. It’s major strength will be the performance and software it offers for the price.
