Display and Processor

Gionee Elife E7 had a gorgeous Full HD IPS LCD display, 5.5 Inches in size. Elife E8 not only scales size and resolution to 6 Inches and Quad HD (2k) respectively, but also uses an entirely different AMOLED panel. Amoled displays are characterized with oversaturated colors, high contrast and wonderful blacks, while IPS LCD displays offer better whites.

Gionee Elife E7 features one of the best 32 bit processors, the Snapdragon 800 quad core and was also one of the rare few phones offering it for under 30k last year when it was launched. This year Gionee has opted for 4G LTE enabled MediaTek’s high end 2.0 GHz Helio X10 (MT6795) Octa-Core 64-bit (Cortex A53) processor with PowerVR G6200 GPU, which doesn’t use Cortex A57 cores at all as in present Qualcomm Snapdragon top of the line chips (perhaps to avoid heating). Both phones include 3 GB RAM (Elife E7 has a 2GB RAM variant too).

Camera and Internal Storage

Gionee Elife E7 termed its 16 MP shooter as “the world’s most responsive” shooter and indeed camera performance was admirable. Elife E8, on the other hand, includes a 24 MP rear camera with fast auto focus (0.08 –0.20 Sec) and unique ability to stitch 120 MP images using software. Admirably, the camera bump is no more.

Gionee Elife E7 had fixed 16 GB and 32 GB storage variants. Elife E8 storage is impressive with 64 GB native storage and a MicroSD card slot for further expansion.

Battery and Other Features

Gionee is mighty serious about battery backup this time. Elife E8 comes with a long lasting 3500 mAh battery which is more than 2500 mAh unit on Elife E7. A fingerprint sensor has also been added.

Elife E8 is running Android 5.1 Lollipop based Amigo UI 3.1, which Elife E7 is running Android 4.4 KitKat based Amigo UI (V3.5.2e) after update. Gionee is likely to update Elife E7 with the same software later.

Conclusion

Gionee Elife E8 is bigger and faster and shows all-round improvement over Elife E7. When Elife E6 was launched last year, it was viewed as a value for money device, even with price tag ranging in the vicinity of 30,000 INR. Now the market has evolved a lot and price-performance equation has completely changed. Elife E8 has a price tag of
