10 Features of Meizu MX5 For Indian Users, Everything We Know

Meizu has today launched the new Mx5 in China and the phone will later roll out to other countries including India. So here is what we know of Meizu MX5 as of now.

Meizu-MX5

The Display

Meizu MX5 includes a 5.5 Inch Full HD display. The display quality is super AMOLED which means it will be characterized with deep darks and high contrast ratio. The Display is further protected by Gorilla Glass 3 so can withstand daily wear and tear. It is a more conventional 16:9 aspect ratio display which will be 40 percent more power efficient than Meizu MX4 display.

Horsepower

Meizu Mx5 is powered by MediaTek’s premium range of chipset, the Helio X10 (MT6795T) which we earlier saw in high end HTC One M9 Plus.  This 64 bit chip has 8 Cortex A53 cores, all clocked at 2.2 GHz and assisted by MediaTek’s  PowerVR G6200 GPU. Performance won’t be ‘flagship grade’ but this is good news for mid range buyers, except advanced users who like to Mod and flash Roms on their phones (As MediaTek doesn’t share source code).

RAM and Storage Options

Meizu MX5 includes 3 GB LP DDR3 RAM and Meizu has decided to exclude MicroSD card storage. Instead, you can choose from 16 GB, 32 GB or 64 GB storage options. For those who can make ends meet with 32 GB or 64 GB storage, this isn’t a bad deal. However, we don’t expect the 64 GB variants to arrive in India.

Camera with Laser Auto Focus

Meizu is using 20.7 MP Sony IMX220 sensor for the rear camera, with a wide f2.0 aperture 6p lens. The pixel size is large at 1.2 Microns, and thus low light performance should be better. Behind the dual LED flash, there is a laser Auto Focus, which can focus in just 0.2 Seconds, according to Meizu. You can record 4K videos from the rear camera. A 5MP f2.0 lens selfie shooter is also present

Open source OS

flyme

Meizu MX4 is running Android 5.0 Lollipop based Flyme 4.5 OS. The good thing is, the compant will open source parts of OS and put them on GitHub. This means the phone will keep getting community support even in long run.

Fingerprint Sensor
touch-good

There is a physical home button below the display which doubles as a fingerprint scanner. Meizu is using a better sensor as compared to MX4. You can use the fingerprint scanner to securely unlock your phone, to access private folders and for mobile payment (Alipay wallet). The home button has a chamfered metal ring around it to help it blend better with the rest of the phone.

Design

screw

Despite full metal jacket, the 5.5 Inch phablet weighs 144 grams and is just 7.6 mm thick. The metal looks and feels premium in hands. T-Slots are present on the back to facilitate Antena transmission and reception. Meizu has also used a unique coloring and injection molding process, so that the metal back doesn’t interface with signal reception. The Metal body has been anodized up to 5 times to render premium feel.

Dual SIM 4G LTE

Meizu MX5 will include Dual SIM support and you can run 4G LTE on both the SIM cards. The handset supports both TDD LTE and FDD LTE and will work with Airtel’s LTE band in India.

Battery

Battery capacity hasn’t been compromised with the slim design. Thanks to mCharge technology, Meizu MX5 can charge the 3150 mAh battery to 25 percent in 10 minutes and can charge to 60 percent in 40 minutes. A battery saver mode is also present to extend usage in critical times.

Will Sell Online

Meizu MX5 will arrive in India later. The company already started its India operations and has been selling limited stocks on Amazon.in. Since there is no well defined distribution network, the company will follow the online route when selling in India. You can watch follow their Facebook page for updates.
