Key Improvements in OnePlus 2

  • LPDDR4 RAM with double bandwidth on both variants
  • Improved Display brightness and contrast
  • A new Fingerprint sensor
  • USB Type C Connector
  • Metal frame on the sides
  • A new Alert key
  • Bigger pixels in the camera sensor, OIS and Laser AF

What it is missing compared to OnePlus

  • No NFC
  • No quick charge
  • no stereo speakers

Display and Processor

Both smartphones include the same sized IPS LCD display (5.5 Inch) with same 1080p resolution. But, OnePlus has improved what matters more. The OnePlus 2 has better contrast and an even brighter panel (600 Nits).

At this stage, we would say QHD displays are noticeably sharper if you look real close, but the tradeoff with battery backup isn’t worth it. The display was one of the week points for the One and if OnePlus has managed to fix it, this should make all fans happy.

The OnePlus One included a 2.5 GHz Snapdragon 801 processor which is perhaps the best 32 bit chipset for smartphones. The OnePlus 2 includes the latest 1.8 GHz Snapdragon 810, which is a great 64 Bit chip. You won’t be disappointed by performance on either of the two. Both 16 GB and 64 GB variants have LPDDR4 RAM (3GB and 4GB).

Camera and Internal Storage

Again, rather than increasing the MP count, OnePlus aims to improve the quality. The 13 MP camera has bigger pixels this time for better low light performance. Optical image stabilization to offset motion blur and Laser AF have also been added to improve performance. Both phones have 5 MP selfie cameras on the front. The LPDDR4 RAM will allow the 2 to click time lapse videos easily.

Both phones come with 16GB and 64 GB internal storage variants. There is no MicroSD card slot for further expansion. Internal Nand flash storage is faster than SD card storage and for performance reasons, several manufacturers are now avoiding the SD card slot. The 64 GB variant should be good enough for most people.

Battery and Other Features

OnePlus 2 includes a bigger 3300 mAh battery, but with the new Snapdragon 810 and brighter display, we are expecting backup to be comparable to OnePlus One, which is a good thing.

The OnePlus One is running Cyanogen OS and the 2 will be running Android 5.1 Lollipop based Oxygen OS.

Other features is what differentiates the One from the 2. The OnePlus 2 includes a USB Type C port and comes with a cable which can be inserted on both ends. The 2 also includes a dedicated alert key to activate priority and DND mode and a fingerprint sensor for more security.

Conclusion

The OnePlus 2 brings Snapdragon 810 to a very affordable price. For now, it looks like OnePlus 2 has evolved in the right direction, improving where it matters.
