Xiaomi often refers to itself as a software company. The claim isn’t out of line as Xiaomi’s MIUI ROM baked on top of Android has massive community support (over 150 million users), plenty of customization options and loads of vibrant colours. Yesterday, the Chinese manufacturer launched the next iteration of its MIUI software, the MIUI 7, running on Redmi Note 2 and Redmi Note 2 Prime.
We will get first hand MIUI 7 experience next week when Xiaomi launched it globally at an event in New Delhi, India on August 19th. Here is what the new MIUI 7 will bring to the table.
Improved Battery Life – Xiaomi claims that the new MIUI 7 is optimized to reduce power consumption by 25 percent. With the help of scenario based UI also improves system response speed and application speed too.
Muse theme creation tool – Muse theme creation tool lets you create themes of your choice. You don’t need to be a programmer to create your own themes with this tool.
Face recognition feature and Pet Gallery– A face recognition feature can search all gallery images for a particular face. A separate pet category is also present in the gallery.
Video ringtones – Another cool MIUI7 feature is, that you can assign video ringtones to individual contacts. Hmm, that opens up all kinds of fun possibilities.
New Kids Mode – A new kids mode has been added to keep sensitive info out of reach of your children, something which all parents will appreciate.
The new Redmi Note and Redmi Note Prime differ in terms of native storage and clock frequency of chipset, but are mostly similar phones. Both phones include a 5.5 Inch full HD display, MediaTek’s high end Helio X10 MT6795 chip, 2 GB LPDDR3 RAM, Dual SIM support, 4G LTE, Bluetooth 4.0, GPS, GLONASS and 3060 mAh battery. Samsung ditched IR blaster in Galaxy Note 5 last night, but Xiaomi has included it in all Redmi Note 2 variants.
For photography, there is a 13 MP rear camera with phase detection Auto focus, LED flash and 5P wide angle lens. The front 5 MP selfie camera has large 1.4 Micrometer pixel size for better low light performance, and can also record HD videos.
