Answer –  No, Gorilla Glass protection is not present. A scratch guard comes bundled inside the box.

Question – How is the Display on Phicomm Energy 653?

Answer –  Display is better than what we are used to seeing on under 5K smartphones. There is 720p HD sharpness, good viewing angles and decent outdoor visibility to appreciate and benefit from.

Question – How is the Design and Build Quality?

Answer –  Energy 653 looks familiar and similar to generic low budget Chinese smartphones. The back cover is made of glossy plastic with symmetrically placed Camera module, LED flash and secondary mic on the top left, and speaker grill close to the bottom. There is nothing particularly exciting going on on the front surface either. The touch glass is prone to smudges and is lined by three capacitive keys below it. What works in its favour is that the handset is reasonably slim and light, and feels pretty comfortable when held in hand.

Question – How is the software?

Answer – Sowtware is based on Android 5.0 Lollipop and is close to stock android ROM. Another good part is that bloatware has been kept in check. The default trebuchet app launcher isn’t something we like, and we had to replace it with a third party launcher for better efficiency on day one itself.

Answer –  0.856 W/Kg@10g (Full details not specified)

Question – Are the capacitive navigation keys backlit?

Answer – No, the navigation buttons are not backlit, but do have haptic feedback.

Answer –  We haven’t experienced any abnormal heating so far.

Question – How much is free RAM on first boot?

Answer – Once again – keeping the price tag in mind – the rear 8MP camera can click some decent shots in outdoor lighting, though long shots often felt under exposed. The performance holds reasonably well in indoor lighting as well. The front 2MP selfie shooter is also better than what we had expected.

Question – How is the performance?

Answer – Though Phicomm has trimmed down the UI, the performance is still nothing to be excited about. At times, apps take too long to open and high end gaming wasn’t smooth either. The handset scored 17105 on Antutu and 46.2 Fps on Nenamarks.
