Display

Coolpad Note 3 has got IPS LCD display, viewing angles are good and colors looks good as well but not as good as they are on AMOLED. 5 inch IPS LCD display has got resolution of 720 x 1280 pixels. At this price point, display great for good user experience when browsing web pages and watching pictures or videos.

Sunlight visibility of the display is good if not great, but you will have to increase brightness to read it direct sunlight.

User Interface

It has a Cool UI 6.0 by Coolpad which gives some nice options like custom theme with new wallpapers and also allows you to change the font. You have some custom features like gestures, double tap to wake up the phone even when display is turned Off. You also have support for gestures like draw c to launch the camer and other crazy things.

Finger Print Sensor

One amazing feature of the phone is that it comes with finger print sensor at an affordable price, this is a first time that this has happened on any smartphone in India. The fingerprint sensor works really fast and allows more things to do rather than just unlocking the phone. You can configure max 5 finger prints, you can also lock app access with fp lock app which allows you to open an app only once you verify the finger through finger sensor.

You can also customize themes according to your mood plus you have an option for single handed operation as well. You will find many on-screen and off-screen gestures like double tap to unlock, pinch to launch camera, swipe 3 fingers for screenshot and more.

Camera

Camera interface is basic mainly but provide important options like panorama mode, HDR mode and camera shutter is also quick in capture. Focus speed is fast and it works without even tapping on the screen at times. In low light shots look good but not great, front camera on the other hand performs great and take good selfies in low light or artificial light.

Performance

Coolpad Note 3 comes with decent hardware specifications which include a 64-bit Mediatek 6735 1.3 Ghz processor with 3 GB of RAM. 2.2 GB of RAM you get free on first boot. Multitasking is smooth and gaming is a great experience.

Gaming

We played asphalt 8, dead trigger and MC5 and it was able to play these games smoothly without any lag, but there were some frame drops we noticed occasionally. The max temperature we noticed was around 40 degrees and these test were done in AC room.

Battery

As far as the battery backup is concerned, it comes with a 3000 mAh non-removable battery, it is a decent battery but it is not that exceptional to keep it running for the whole day in single charge. Heavy users may struggle with the battery life as it hardly manages to run throughout a busy day. We noticed a screen on time of around 3-4 hours during testing.

Battery dropped 2% with HD video playback for every 3 minutes and during gaming it was around 2% of drop for every 4 minutes of HD gaming.

Verdict

Coolpad Note 3 seems to be a great choice for the price you pay for it.  But its coming for a chinese company which is less known in india. The main trust from the consumer is not there for this new company. Coolpad have played well this time and price vs value hardware and features with this device.
