Camera-Centric Asus Zenfone Zoom Launched In India at INR 37,999

Yesterday evening, the Taiwanese tech giant Asus launched its camera centric smartphone touted as the Zenfone Zoom. The highlight of this particular Zenfone is its 13 MP camera with 10 element lens and it is also claimed to be the slimmest phone with 3x optical zoom. The Zenfone Zoom is priced at INR 37,999 and Asus is bundling a portable tripod and external flash for INR 39,999. It will be available exclusively on Flipkart and will go on sale in Asus exclusive stores from February 2016.

Asus Zenfone Zoom was first showcased at CES 2015 and Asus decided to launch it in India almost after a year. It looks like an iteration of Zenfone 2 which has a better camera for some serious photography. It boasts of a 13 MP PixelMaster rear camera with 10 element lens (made by Hoya), sensors designed by Panasonic and OIS (Optical image stabilization) technology. It also includes the laser auto-focus technology from Asus that is claimed to lock focus in just 0.03 seconds. The front has a high resolution 5 MP camera that seems perfect for good quality selfies.

Moreover, Asus has added dedicated buttons for shooting, recording and telephoto operations to make the photography experience more natural and camera like. It has a solid metal build with leather back in pure lack and ceramic white colours. Asus did not even miss the safety loop for safety, to add the flavor of a professional camera in the Zenfone Zoom.

Other than the mighty camera module, Asus Zenfone Zoom has a 5.5 inch full HD display, 2.3 GHz Intel Atom processor with 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB in-built storage. The storage can be expanded to another 128 GB using microSD card. In spite of the bulky camera on the back, it is 12 mm thick and weighs 185 grams. On the software front, it runs on Android 5.0 with the latest version of ZenUI on top.

For connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi direct, Bluetooth 4.0, 802.11ac, GPS connectivity, and it supports only one Micro SIM. All this is backed by a 3000 mAh battery.
