After announcing the 2nd Gen Google Chromecast along with the Nexus phones last year in September, the company has finally brought the successor of the Chromecast today in India. This time, the company has followed a totally different approach and brought in some new features along with a new Chromecast audio. It is available for purchase from today onwards from e-retailers including Flipkart, Snapdeal, Paytm and offline stores include Reliance and Croma.

The new Chromecast has a different design overall compared to the earlier one. It has an HDMI cable looped inside a circular unit which looks a lot like the Google chrome logo. It comes with improved Wi-Fi connectivity, now it comes with three on-board antennas and dual-band 5GHz 802.11 ac. It also comes with a fast play option that allows you to press the cast button directly from the app, and all you have to do is to play your content and tap that option.

What I really liked was that with the new Chromecast, you can cast the games on your smartphone directly to the screen in front of you and use your phone as a controller. Now, that is something that is going to make big in future.

It also allows you to customize the feed you want to see while your Chromecast is on standby mode. It will display the social media and other selected feeds on the screen when you are not using the dongle to cast your media.

The Chromecast audio brings life back to your old speakers, which do not support Bluetooth or Wi-Fi but an auxiliary cable support. It adds wireless connectivity to your regular speakers and gives you full control over your audio. It works with Android and iOS devices but sadly, it doesn’t support your pc.  You can connect multiple Chromecast audio devices with single app and play the same content on all of them.  One more feature worth noting is the guest access, which allows others to stream music even without connecting to user’s wi-fi network.
