Lenovo Z1 To Launch In India On May 10, First Lenovo Phone With Cyanogen OS

Lenovo Z1 will be launched in India on May 10. The Chinese giant has announced that the company’s next smartphone will see a “crowd-sourced” launch in India, becoming the first ever phone to witness such a launch.

The company announced the news on its official Facebook page. “Announcing the World’s first Crowd Sourced Product Launch where YOU take center stage to launch the#LenovoZ1.”, said the company.

The Lenovo Z1 is also known as the Lenovo Zuk Z1 in China. It will be called as the “Lenovo Z1 – powered by Zuk” in India. It will come Cyanogen OS 12.1, based on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop. This makes it the first Lenovo phone to run on Cyanogen OS. This also makes Lenovo the second brand to officially use Cyanogen OS in India, breaking Micromax YU’s exclusivity.

The Lenovo Z1 comes with a quad core Snapdragon 801 processor. Although the SOC is more than a couple of years old now, it is still an extremely efficient and powerful chipset. It comes with a 5.5 inch full HD display, with a pixel density of ~401 PPI. The Z1 also has 3 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage, but there is no provision for a microSD card.


The Z1 also comes with a 13 MP camera on the back, featuring a Sony IMX214 sensor, with Optical Image Stabilization and dual LED flash. On the front, there’s an 8 MP camera. Both the cameras can record 1080p videos at 30 FPS.

The Lenovo Z1 also features a huge 4100 mAh battery and dual SIM support, with Indian LTE bands supported. On the connectivity front, you get Bluetooth 4.1 and Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac.

Lenovo is touting the launch of the Z1 as the “World’s first crowdsourced phone launch”. The company has revealed that the phone will land in India on May 10. Further pricing and availability details are awaited.
