Airtel has recently launched its Open Network Initiative under the Project Leap program, where it has promised to make information about its entire mobile network accessible to their customers. Users can now check for Airtel’s network coverage and signal strength across the India. One can access it via MyAirtel app or by visiting the Airtel official website.
Though its a very good initiative from Airtel but we found the data to be highly inaccurate in may of the cases. Few days back, the Open network app and the signal bars on my phone were telling two different stories. On 2nd of July when I checked my phone with the Airtel SIM in it, there was either no network or just one signal bar on every phone with Airtel connection at my home. So to make sure about this issue I opened the “Open Network App” in the phone itself and surprisingly it showed that my area has excellent voice quality and excellent data quality.
Now this is what I call a surprise. Maybe the signal issue was due to some maintenance work going on or something of that sort but the app was showing “excellent voice quality and excellent data quality” whereas my phones were hardly even getting signals. Even though Airtel says that they are open and nothing is hidden from their customers but it seems like they are providing fake information to their customers which is really annoying to be honest.
Though I really appreciate this new initiative from Airtel but seems like it is of no use. Though we can spot the towers around our locality but I totally doubt about this signal information provided by the site or the app. Though we didn’t face any network issue after that but the experience with the app was really disappointing considering that Airtel is one of the best networks in India.
