Lenovo Z2 Plus Vs OnePlus 3 Comparison and Specifications

Lenovo was staying out of headlines when it comes to the smartphones it has unveiled this year. Other than the Moto phones, Lenovo was not able to put a strong competitor in the market for a long time now. Today at the launch event in New Delhi, Lenovo surprised everyone with its all new flagship killer Z2 Plus smartphone.

The less crowded segment between Rs.15k to Rs. 20k has suddenly caught every OEMs attention and looks like the Z2 Plus has begun the war. Lenovo Z2 Plus becomes the most affordable phone with Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and also offers 3GB/4GG RAM options. With this type of configuration, it competes with the likes of LeEco Le Max 2 (4GB), Xiaomi Mi5. OnePlus 3 and Asus Zenfone 3 (ZE552KL-1A031IN).

In this article you’ll find the Lenovo Z2 Plus (4GB) battling against the mighty OnePlus 3 which comes at a higher price tag. We have not tested the Z2, but we can give you an idea to make a better choice between the both.

Design & Build

The Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with a very minimal design and good build quality. The phone is covered with 2.5D curved glass on the front and the back, giving it a premium feel. However, like most other phones featuring glass backs, the phone is more prone to glass breakage than regular phones. That being said, the overall design looks premium thanks to minimal lines and branding.

Coming to the OnePlus 3, it is build using anodized aluminum, which makes it very sturdy and also keeps the weight under limits. There is no plastic used on the phone, other than the good-looking antennae bands on the top and bottom of the back.

Both the phones look good and have their plus points. Z2 Plus has a smaller form factor which makes it better for one handed usage and also it is slightly lighter compared to OnePlus 3. On the other hand, OnePlus 3 flaunts a much sleeker and stylish metallic shell. OnePlus 3 also feels more solid and sturdy compared to Z2 Plus.

Display

The Lenovo Z2 Plus and the OnePlus 3 both come with full HD (1080 x 1920p) displays. While the Z2 Plus uses a 5 inch LTPS IPS LCD display, the OnePlus 3 uses a 5.5 inch optic AMOLED panel.

Both the display panels are great in terms of color reproductions, sharpness and viewing angles but the OnePlus 3 takes the lead when it comes to overall display performance.

We must note that the OnePlus 3 costs Rs. 28K and has a bigger display, so it ends up on your choice weather you want a big display phone or a compact display at reasonable price.

Hardware and Storage

Both the flagship devices are powered by Qualcomm’s latest Snapdragon 820 processor. The Z2 Plus comes in 3 GB and 4 GB variants, while the OnePlus 3 comes in only 6 GB version.

In terms of internal storage, you can get either 32 GB or 64 GB storage with the Lenovo Z2 Plus, while the OnePlus 3 comes only in 64 GB version in India.

Both the smartphones have mighty specifications on paper. OnePlus 3 is my current favorite in terms of performance and usability but at just 19K INR, Z2 Plus has amazed all of us and can surely stand tall against the OnePlus 3. Only the RAM falls below the standards set by OnePlus 3, but 4GB of RAM is good enough for most of the high end tasks.

Camera

Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with a 13 MP primary camera with f/2.2 aperture, PDAF, ISOCELL Sensor. OnePlus 3 comes with a 16 MP camera on the back with F/2.0 aperture, PDAF, EIS and OIS features and the sensor used is Sony IMX 298 measuring just 1.12 microns. Both the phones also support ultra slow-motion recording.

On the front, the Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with an 8 MP secondary camera with 1.4 µm pixel size and the OnePlus 3 has an 8 MP camera with a 1.4 microns sized Sony IMX 179 sensor. Both the phones’ front cameras support up to 1080p recording.

We did not get enough time to test the camera on Z2 Plus properly but according to our initial tests, OnePlus 3 has a much better camera compared to Z2 Plus.

Battery

The Lenovo Z2 Plus comes with a 3500 mAh battery while the OnePlus 3 comes with a 3000 mAh battery. Z2 Plus supports Qualcomm Quick Charge 3.0 that can charge up to 83% battery in 30 minutes and the OnePlus 3 has its own Dash charging technology. As far as the battery is concerned, the OnePlus 3 charges faster but Z2 Plus is expected to last longer with that bigger cell and smaller display.

Pricing & Availability

The Lenovo Z2 Plus has been priced aggressively considering the pricing of its competitors. The Z2 Plus starts at Rs. 17,999 for the 3 GB / 32 GB version and Rs. 19,999 for the 4 GB / 64 GB version. It will be available for purchase exclusively from Amazon.in starting September 25. Color variants are Black and White.

The OnePlus 3 is now priced at Rs. 27,999 and the device can be purchased from Amazon.in. It is available in Grey color only.

Conclusion

OnePlus 3 was dominating the charts with its amazing hardware till now. With the launch of Lenovo Z2 Plus, it is now surely going to the OnePlus sales will surely be hit by a small margin. No doubt that OnePlus 3 has proven its metal in its segment, but the new entrant has all the power one asks from a 20K phone. Frankly, there is no comparison between both the phones; it totally depends on your choice of design, build, display and more.
