Xiaomi Mi 5S was launched today at an event held in China. The latest flagship smartphone from Xiaomi comes with ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, becoming one of the first phones to have it. It also comes with the latest Qualcomm SoC, Snapdragon 821. You also get a 5.15 inch Full HD LED backlit IPS LCD display.

Starting off with the core specs of the Xiaomi 5S, the Chinese giant has used a 5.15 inch Full HD IPS LCD display, aided by 16 ultra bright LED lights for improving brightness and sunlight visibility. The company has rated the brightness at 600 nits.
The Mi 5S is Xiaomi’s latest flagship, and comes with the current flagship SoC from Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 821 processor. It is assisted by Adreno 530 GPU. On the memory front, Xiaomi has launched a couple of variants of the Mi 5S – one with 3 GB RAM and 64 GB UFS 2.0 storage, and another with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB UFS 2.0 storage.
Coming to the cameras, the Xiaomi Mi 5S comes with a 12 MP camera on the back with an f/2.0 aperture, assisted by dual tone dual LED flash. Xiaomi is using the Sony IMX378 1/2.3-inch sensor. The Mi 5S can record 4K videos and can do slow-motion recording up to 720p at 120 FPS. The main camera also comes with Phase Detection Autofocus.
On the front, you get a 4 MP camera with 2um pixel size, f/2.0 aperture and an 80 degree wide angle lens. The front camera can record up to full HD videos.

One of the main highlights of the Xiaomi Mi 5S is the ultrasonic fingerprint sensor. It comes with the latest fingerprint detection technology, making it capable of scanning fingerprints through glass, thin sheet of metal, plastic etc. This makes it easier to operate in extremely cold conditions where you may be wearing gloves, for example.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.2, Dual SIM support, 4G LTE with VoLTE out of the box and NFC. The phone comes with a USB Type C connector and a 3200 mAh battery with Quick Charge 3.0 support.
Pricing And Availability
The Xiaomi Mi 5S has been priced at CNY 1,999 ($299/INR 20,000 approx) for the 3 GB RAM – 64 GB storage version and at CNY 2,299 ($344/INR 23,000 approx) for the 4 GB RAM – 128 GB storage version. It will be on sale in China starting September 29.
