VIVO Y55L Physical Overview

VIVO has always been very particular about looks and design of its handsets. With the Y55L, I feel that the company is again following the same iPhone like design. It looks very similar to the iPhone 6 from the back, though it doesn’t look bad. It has rounded edged and curved sides that make it easy to grip. The small 5.2 inch screen size feels perfect for one handed usage.

The build quality is good, although it is made of plastic but still feels very sturdy. It weighs 142 grams which is perfect for a phone of this size. Let’s take a look around the phone and checkout the button placement.

Starting with the front, the top ha got the ear piece in the center and selfie camera on its left. The light sensor is baked on the right side of the earpiece.

At the bottom there are three capacitive keys for navigation. Sadly they are not backlit, but painted in silver. That makes it easily visible in low light.

The 8 MP primary camera is baked on the top left of the back panel along with LED flash right next to it.

Display

It comes with a 5.2 inch HD IPS display. If we do not look at the resolution, the display looks very impressive to eyes. It has sharp details and punchy colors, which is good for multimedia on the go. Another quality of the display is brightness, as it is easily visible in outdoors under bright light. Extreme viewing angles and smooth touch response is also worth a mention.

Camera Overview

VIVO Y55L has a 8 MP rear camera with LED flash, the autofocus was pretty quick and accurate in good lighting conditions. Colors look very close to natural and details are nicely captured. It performs much better than many 13MP cameras on competing devices of this range. In low light, the camera was not very good, but looking at the price, the pictures were far better than my expectation. Stabilization is done pretty efficiently on this phone.

The front camera is not bad either; it took decent pictures in day light. The plus point with this camera is that you can click selfies even in the low light with the help of Screen Flash feature.

Moreover, camera software offers number of modes to play with. You won’t feel cheated with the camera on this phone. For a better idea, you can have a look at the pictures below.

Gaming Performance

On the graphics side, the phone features the Adreno 505 GPU. To test the gaming, I installed Modern Combat 5 on the phone and it was running seamlessly during my tests. I played it for almost 35 minutes and all I noticed was minor freezes at busy areas. It is a decent phone for gaming, but you may find it lagging when there are mulpiple apps running in the background.

Conclusion

At Rs. 11,980, most of us will not consider it the best compared to competition. But one should know that numbers are not everything. This phone has a great build quality, a good display and impressive camera. VIVO also has a good after sales support so the quality is the best you can expect at this price.

If you ask why is this phone not under 10K despite the normal hardware, then you must know that selling a phone offline is not as cheap as online. So the price is justified for offline market.
