Things Which Make My New iPhone 7 Old and Boring

With the launch of Apple’s latest iPhone 7, we saw a lot of buzz about the phone. As always, Apple was able to attract a large number of loyalists or fans on the very first day of its release. The failure of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 was another major reason that went in favor of Apple. I may disappoint a lot of Apple fans in this post but being an Apple fan myself, I did not love the iPhone 7 as much as I wanted to.

In simple words, Apple has once again come up with a phone that is slightly better than its predecessor and has no ‘WOW’ fator. I have been using the new iPhone 7 and the experience is nothing extraordinary. There are still a lot of areas where Apple lacks behind and that’s sad.

Here are few things that make the new iPhone 7 feel boring:

Same design, same form factor

The first thing that we notice in a new gen device is its design and build, so we did with the iPhone 7. No doubt, the iPhone 7 has one of the best feel and design but is it something new? No. Apple iPhone 7 comes with the same design and dimensions with minor changes. Only the camera bulge and antennae bands are two elements that feel different in design. Removal of 3.5mm jack  did not make the phone slimmer.

Yes, iPhone already has a great feel, and works well with one hand. But I feel there is nothing new and refreshing about the design.

Camera performance is nothing exceptional

With phones like Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge ruling the charts with its amazing camera performance, we expected Apple to come up with something big. Big here means better low light performance, or something that we have not seen before. I agree that there are developments in the camera department, but they are very minor. Obviously, I am complaining because I expect the best from the latest iteration of iPhone. At least, better than the current market leader in camera department.

Cramped keyboard experience

If you are used to Android keyboard and have switched to iOS keyboard, then you are surely going to face some tough time. It’s not that the response and accuracy on iOS keyboard is not good but comparatively the keyboard feels cramped. Errors while typing is very common in the beginning, and the autocorrect makes it more irritable.

Narrow Angle Front Camera

Use of the front camera has been increased immensely in past few years. Apple is known to provide the best front cameras on their smartphones. But the time has changed and now there are numerous competitors that stand along the front cameras on iPhones. The picture quality from the front camera is great, but the area that is covered by the front camera is very narrow. We compared it to every other flagship in the market, and realized that iPhone 7 covers the smallest area when it comes to the front camera.

3D Touch Giving Me Headache

3D touch was introduced with iPhone 6s. The display becomes pressure sensitive and reads the amount of force or pressure that you apply on the display. According to us, 3D touch is surely a good option in some cases but there are places where the 3D touch makes no sense. You can simple tap and hold inspite of using the pressure sensitive 3D touch. We found it useful with some of games but  one thing that irritates is its vibration feedback that sadly cannot be turned off.
