Lenovo K6 Power Real Life Usage Review

Chinese consumer electronics manufacturer Lenovo has been pretty low in terms of the hype compared to last year. We did see some killer phones under the Motorola brand this year, but Lenovo phones could not create the buzz we expected. Out of all the releases in 2016, the recently launched Lenovo K6 Power has impressed many enthusiasts with its tempting features this time.

The phone is priced at Rs. 9,999 and comes with ample of power and features. I have been using the Lenovo K6 Power soon after the launch. In this review, I’ll be putting light on the worth of the phone, if it gives good value for money or not.

What are Usage Reviews, Tests and Opinions?

This review is based on our quick tests and usage done with the phone, we try to push the device to its limits and find out the results which will matter if you plan to buy this phone. We hope this review helps you to get your queries answered about the device.

Performance

The Lenovo K6 Power is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 with an Octa-core processor clocked at 1.4GHz and has Adreno 505 GPU. The device comes with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. The storage on the device can be expanded up to 256GB via microSD card.

App Launch Speed

The app launch speed on the Lenovo K6 Power is good. Taking the example of Asphalt 8, it launched pretty normally without any unusual delay.

Multitasking and RAM Management

The Lenovo K6 Power comes with 3GB of RAM, which seems ample for the price it comes for. If you are an aggressive user, then you might face some stutters in between switching of apps and other tasks. But my experience on this phone as a regular user was smooth. It is always recommended to swipe away unnecessary apps for a smooth experience.

Heating

I did not experience any noticeable heating on this device. It gets warm while gaming, but doesn’t get very hot at any point of time. The new Snapdragon SoCs’ thermal management is very good, especially the SD430, SD625, SD650 and SD652. Unsurprisingly the K6 Power fares well in this regard.

Camera

The Lenovo K6 Power comes with a 13MP autofocus camera with LED flash on the back. On the front, Lenovo K6 Power comes with an 8MP camera.

Camera UI

The camera UI on K6 power is similar to what we have seen in earlier Vibe series phone. It is laid out very neatly and does allow enough area for viewfinder. I did not find any filter in the UI, which is quite strange. Otherwise, the UI offers easy settings and toggles along with modes like Slow Motion and Time-lapse.

Day Light Photo Quality

Day light photos from this camera showed good colors and accurate temperature. But the details were not very crisp compared to its competitor Redmi 3s Prime. Autofocus speed was good, and also the processing took less than a second.

Overall, the pictures looked good for this price and you can surely capture some good-looking shots if you have a little sense of photography.

Low Light Photo Quality

Low light shots from K6 Power’s rear camera were not so impressive. I did not expect a lot in the low light conditions, but still the camera captures decent amount of light. The software softens the pictures to reduce the grains and noise. You need to keep your hand still to get a clear picture in low light.

Selfie Photo Quality

Selfie quality is very good in good lighting conditions; no matter it is natural light or artificial light.

Battery Performance

K6 Power comes with a 4000 mAh battery that seems good on paper. I use my 4G SIM in one of the slots with data turned on. I tried using the phone in different scenarios where I used the phone for gaming, browsing, and social networking. The Lenovo K6 power has proved to be a good device if you want to get over battery related issues.

K6 Power is good enough to last for a day with around 20-30% of power left in the phone after moderate usage.

20 Minutes of Browsing On 4G- 2% Drop

35 Minutes of video playback- 4% Drop

40 Minutes of gaming (Asphalt 8)- 11% Drop

Charging Time

We were able to charge the Lenovo K6 Power from 0-100% in 2 hours with the bundled charger.

Looks and Design

Lenovo K6 Power shares its design language with the Vibe K5, especially the back of the phone. It’s made solely out of metal and feels very solid and sturdy in hand. The good part is that the phone feels very light in weight despite the metal finish, and this makes it even more comfortable for one handed usage.

It has curved sides and edges that make it easy to grip. You will also finish chrome linings on the top and bottom of the back, and also around the camera lens, fingerprint sensor and LED flash give it a striking appearance overall. One thing that we did not like was the placement of speaker grill, as it may be blocked while keeping the phone on a flat surface.

Display Clarity, Colors and Viewing Angles

Lenovo K6 Power

K6 Power has a 5 inch full HD (1080p) display with a pixel density of 441ppi. The display is great in terms of brightness and clarity. This is a great display for gaming and watching multimedia content. I found the viewing angles to be very wide.

Outdoor Visibility (Full Brightness)

I had no issue at all while viewing the K6 Power outdoors and even in bright sunlight despite the highly reflective nature of the glass covered display.

Operating System

The K6 Power still runs a custom UI similar to Vibe UI we have seen in Lenovo phones. It comes with pre-loaded apps from the company and also has tweaked menu and notification panel skin. The experience is very different from the stock Android but still does not feel cluttered or confusing at any time.

My experience till now is smooth and stutter free on this UI, but it might slow down as the phone gets older and fills up the storage.

Sound Quality

The sound quality from the loudspeaker is decent for a phone of this range. It is loud and clear for a small room. Sound through the bundled earphones is good; it matches the same performance that we saw on the Lenovo K5 Note.

Call Quality

We tested the Lenovo K6 Power with different network providers across 2G, 3G and 4G. In all our testing, the Lenovo K6 Power performed very well.

Gaming Performance

The Lenovo K6 Power comes with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 octa-core processor and a Adreno 505 GPU. I installed around 3-5 games on this phone that include, Asphalt 8, Mini Militia,  Color Switch, Modern Combat 5 and more. From lightweight games to heavy games, the K6 Power impressed me with its seamless gaming performance. I did not find it struggling with graphics at any point of time, although you may find minor frame drops in between.

As far as heating is concerned, after playing Asphalt 8 for almost 45 minutes, I experienced a minimal heat on the back but it did not get uncomfortable at all. Must note that the heating may differ during summers, or hot atmosphere.

Conclusion

At 9,999, the Lenovo K6 Power is a complete package of good performance, decent looks, average camera and a beautiful display. Moreover, you get features like fingerprint sensor and many other software features. I am satisfied with the overall impact of the device, and Rs. 9,999 seems apt for a phone like this. Lenovo also excels in after sales support, that adds more value to the offer.
