Earlier this week, Google’s CEO Sundar Pichai announced the latest program Digital Unlocked powered by Google to make digital India a much stronger platform. With all the scope and process well explained by the CEO, an inevitable growth is in sight.
Addressing a large number of SMBs (Small and Medium businesses) representatives, Sundar Pichai explained the wide array of opportunities and possibilities that could bring us to a state where we actually will become a successful digital economy. Speaking on the occassion, he said,
“The Internet is a powerful equalizer and we are motivated to bring the benefits of information and technology to as many people as possible. Building for everyone and making it available in the hands of as many people is at the heart and core of what we do. And we do this by investing in open ecosystems.”
Digital Unlocked
With the launch of ‘Google My Business’, the company has already helped over 8 million SMBs go digital, adding thousands more every month. Digital Unlocked is an extension of its outreach. This training program will educate and empower thousands of Indian SMBs with all the necessary digital skills, helping them go online and reach a wider audience.
This program is coming into action via three platforms, which are online, offline and mobile. Google with FICCI will execute 5000 workshop across India within next three years for serving the offline panels. Online training is a set of video tutorials which is available for free download at g.co/digitalunlocked. This doesn’t end there; Google launched Primer, a peculiar mobile app which is designed to teach digital skills in a quick and easy way. You can download the app on Google Play and Apple store.
Digital Economy And UPI
Plus, Google also introduced My Business Websites, an application which will help the people to start their website and handle the optimization and creation on their own. This application will be launched this year.
Having discussed the above innovations and upcoming success, Sundar Pichai in an interview with NDTV discussed and disseminated information on how UPI based services are being explored at Google for India.
He made it clear that with the acceleration of digital payment platforms caused by demonetization, Google may contribute to the UPI based services in India to enhance services for Indian users. Sundar Pichai added,
“We are working on it hard. Anything we can do to make payments easier for users in India. So we are trying to understand UPI stack, to bring some services, which will make things better for Indian users in terms of digital payments,”
Our Viewpoint
India being such a big democracy needs more than just the government to make the switch to a digital economy. A lot has changed over the years and India of course has stepped ahead from where it was in the past. Cashless economy is on the rise, a digital country is about to born. Google stepping forward to help in this regard is a welcome move.
