Samsung Galaxy S8: Rumoured Specs, Price, Release Date

Samsung Galaxy S8 is undoubtedly one of the most anticipated smartphone of this year. With the Note 7 tragedy fresh in our minds, the curiosity can’t be any higher. While the Korean manufacturer hasn’t yet confirmed anything, leaks and rumours have already started to surface. This is our compilation of all the latest news, speculations and expectations surrounding the Galaxy S8.

Launch Date

First, let’s talk about the release date. It is expected that Samsung will announce the Galaxy S8 next month itself at the MWC 2017. However, the phone won’t be available for purchase until late April. Some sources suggest that this launch date may be 18th April. It is presumed that the Note 7 incident is the reason for this delay. The Korean giant wants to test the smartphone rigorously before releasing it for the general public.

Specification

Samsung Galaxy S8

Moving on to the specs, the Galaxy S8 would certainly be a league of its kind. Just like any other Samsung flagship, the S8 may also come in two variants; one with the Snapdragon 835 chip, and the other with Exynos 8895 SoC. Speaking of memory, the handset will rock either 6 GB or 8 GB of RAM combined with 64, 128, or 256 GB of onboard storage.

The upcoming smartphone is expected to sports a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED display with at least Quad HD (2560 x 1440) resolution. It is almost confirmed that this will be a dual curved display just like the Note 7. This year, Samsung may unveil a larger variant of the S8, aka, the S8 Plus with a larger 6.2-inch dual curved screen. Coming to software, the phone will run Android 7.1 Nougat coated with Samsung’s own user interface.

Speaking of the camera, Galaxy S8 is presumed to sport a similar dual pixel lens like the S7. Only, the resolution may get beefed up. Till now, there is very little info about the presence of dual camera setup. Even if it turns out to be true, it may be exclusive to the larger S8 Plus. The selfie snapper will get an incremental upgrade to an 8 MP autofocus unit.

A very interesting thing about the S8 is that it may lose the physical Home button. Instead, the fingerprint scanner shall be directly integrated to the screen. The 3.5 mm headphone jack will be present though. Samsung may also alter the placement of the power button. It will get shifted to the right hand side just below the volume rocker.

Price

Coming to price, the Galaxy S8 will not be a cheap device. If rumours are to be believed, it is going to be Samsung’s most expensive smartphone till date. The normal version of the handset is expected to cost EUR 849 (Rs. 61,725 approx.) and the bigger S8 Plus may have a price tag of EUR 949 (Rs. 69,000 approx.).

Do note that all this information is just a collaboration of various rumours and leaks. Nothing is confirmed till Samsung officially unveil the smartphone.
