Vivo V5 Plus vs OnePlus 3T Quick Comparison Review

Vivo has launched a new camera centric phone named as Vivo V5 Plus. It is the successor to the much popular Vivo V5 that was launched on 15th November last year. The highlight of the new device is the dual front camera setup. It is equipped with a 20 MP front camera with the Sony IMX376 sensor, f/2.0 aperture and 5P lens. In addition to that it also has a 8 MP camera on the front.

On the other hand,OnePlus 3T was launched in India on 2nd December 2016. Like its predecessor, Oneplus 3, it also emerged as the best smartphone around the 30k mark.

Let us now take a look at the quick comparison between Vivo V5 Plus and OnePlus 3T.

Design & Build

Vivo V5 Plus features a 5.5 inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protection on the top. Interestingly the phone looks pretty similar to the iphone 7 as far as the design is concerned. It has two antennae bands on the top and the bottom edges, which is different from the Vivo V5. It dimensions are 152.58 mm x 74 mm x 7.26 mm and it weighs around 162 grams. The fingerprint sensor is inbuilt in the home button on the front.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3T also boasts of a unibody metal design. It features a 5.5 inch display with Corning Gorilla Glass 4 protection on the top. Its dimensions are 152.7 x 74.7 x 7.4 mm and it weighs around 158 grams. It is also equipped with a inbuilt fingerprint sensor like the former.

Both the phones are good looking but Oneplus 3T has a better design and build quality that is more impressive and unique.

Display

Vivo V5 Plus sports a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD). It also has a Corning Gorilla Glass 5 on the top.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3T also features a 5.5 inch IPS LCD display with a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels (FHD). It has a Corning gorilla glass 4 protection on the top.

Both the phones have a very good display quality.

Camera

Vivo V5 Plus comes with a unique camera setup with two front camera. It includes a 20 MP front camera with the Sony IMX376 sensor, f/2.0 aperture, 1/2.78 inch sensor size, Moonlight LED flash & 5P lens and a 8 MP camera to capture depth-of-field information. On the rear it has a 16 MP, f/2.0, phase detection autofocus and LED flash.

On the other hand OnePlus 3T is equipped with a 16 MP rear camera with f/2.0 aperture, phase detection autofocus, OIS and LED flash. On the front it has a 16 MP camera with f/2.0 aperture and 1.0 µm pixel size.

Camera being the highlight of Vivo V5 Plus, is a strong point in the phone. The front camera is obviously better than OnePlus 3T but the rear camera is not that impressive.

Hardware, Storage & OS

Vivo V5 plus has a 2.0 GHz octa core processor with Qualcomm MSM8953 Snapdragon 625 and Adreno 506 GPU. It is coupled with 4 GB RAM and 64 GB internal storage that is not expandable. It runs on Android OS v6.0 Marshmallow with Funtouch OS 3.0.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3T comes with a quad-core processor with 2×2.35 GHz Kryo & 2×1.6 GHz Kryo. It is equipped with a Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 and Adreno 530 GPU. It is coupled with 6 GB RAM and 64 GB / 128 GB internal storage that is again not expandable. It runs on Android OS v6.0 Marshmallow with Oxygen OS 4.0.2 (planned upgrade to v7.0 Nougat).

On the hardware front OnePlus 3T is far far ahead than the Vivo V5 Plus.

Battery

Vivo V5 Plus is backed by a 3160 mAh Li-ion battery that is non removable and it supports fast charging. On the other hand, OnePlus 3T is backed by a 3400 mAh Li-ion, non removable battery and comes with its own fast charging technology called dash charge.

Price and Availability

Vivo V5 Plus is priced at Rs. 27,980 and it will be available on both online and offline retailers from February 1. The phone will go up for pre-orders from Tuesday in Gold and Gray colors.

OnePlus 3T is priced at Rs. 29,999 for the 64 GB version and Rs. 34,999 for the 128 GB version. The phone is available exclusively on Amazon India in Gunmetal and Soft Gold colors.

Conclusion

Vivo V5 Plus comes in with a great front camera in this price. Other than that, it has a good display, enough RAM and storage, average rear camera and average battery backup. But the hardware is not up to the mark, given that Redmi Note 4 comes with the same chipset at Rs. 9,999.

On the other hand, OnePlus 3T has a more powerful Snapdragon 821 processor. Other than that, it has everything that Vivo V5 shows off except a dual front camera. To conclude, if you have access to online retailers you should definitely go for OnePlus 3T which is a more balanced device.
