HTC U Ultra, U Play Launched In India For Rs. 59,990 And Rs. 39,990

HTC today launched its latest smartphones in India. The new HTC U Ultra with dual displays and the mid-range HTC U Play were launched earlier last month. The two new HTC devices are also the first ones to feature the brand new Sense Companion AI. Making the announcement, HTC said that the U Ultra will be priced at Rs. 59,990, while the mid-range U Play will cost Rs. 39,990.

HTC U Ultra Specifications

The HTC U Ultra features two displays. The primary display is a 5.7 inch Quad HD panel, with a pixel density of ~515 PPI. HTC is sticking with the Super LCD5 display technology in the new devices as well. On top on the primary display, there is a secondary 2 inch display with a resolution of 160 x 1040 pixels.

Coming to the software, the U Ultra comes with Android 7.0 Nougat out of the box. Additionally, HTC has also come up with a new version of its custom skin. The company is calling it Sense Companion. This new skin comes with an AI, making it a smart skin, so to say. It can learn from your usage and deliver smart suggestions. How it works in real life remains to be seen.

Coming to the processor, the U Ultra comes with a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 SoC and Adreno 530 GPU. The phone comes with 4 GB RAM and 64 or 128 GB of internal storage. Internal storage can be expanded up to 256 GB using a microSD card.


In terms of imaging, the HTC U Ultra comes with a 12 MP Ultrapixel camera, with a 1.55um pixel size. The camera comes with a f/1.8 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation, in addition to Laser and Phase Detection Autofocus. The rear camera is assisted by a dual tone dual LED flash. The rear camera supports 2160p recording at 30 FPS.

On the front, you get a 16 MP camera with 1080p recording support and Auto HDR.

Other features include hi-res 24bit/192kHZ audio and fingerprint sensor. Connectivity options include dual SIM, 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi b/g/n/ac, Wi-Fi Direct, DLNA, dual band support, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS and NFC. The phone is powered by a 3000 mAh battery. It comes with Quick Charge 3.0 and features a USB 3.1 Type C reversible connector.

HTC U Play Specifications

The HTC U Play comes with a 5.2-inch full HD Super LCD display with a pixel density of ~428 PPI. Just like the U Ultra, the U Play also features Sense UI, but it is based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The U Play comes with an octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 processor. The RAM and storage have two options – 3GB/4GB and 32GB/64GB. There is also an option for MicroSD card slot.

Camera duties are handled by a 16MP rear camera with f/2.0 lens. The rear camera comes with OIS, Phase Detection Autofocus and dual tone dual LED flash. The front camera also features the same 16 MP f/2.0 lens.

The HTC U Play misses the headphone jack and is compensated with USonic technology. This personalised sound experience is delivered through built-in microphones in the earbuds that “listen” for sonic pulses and adjust audio accordingly.

Pricing And Availability

The HTC U Ultra has been priced at Rs. 59,990 and will be available starting March 6th. The U Ultra will be available in Brilliant Black, Cosmetic Pink and Sapphire Blue Black colour options.

The HTC U Play has been priced at Rs. 39,990 and will be available starting mid-March. The U Play will be available in Iceberg White, Indigo Blue, Black Oil and Cosmic Pink Gold colour options.
