Essential Phone Launched With 5.7″ QHD Bezel-Less Display, SD 835

Andy Rubin, known as the “Father of Android” has finally launched his Essential Phone. The device comes with a 5.7 inch quad HD bezel less display and comes with modularity. The device is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 and comes with 4 GB RAM.

Coming to its modularity, the device comes with a 360 degree camera which is capable of shooting Ultra HD videos. It can be attached using the two magnetic pins on its rear. The device is made up of titanium and ceramic materials which offers it a premium look.

The Essential Phone runs on Android 7.1.1 Nougat. The device features a 5.7 inch Quad HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1312 pixels. The device comes with an edge-to-edge display and is similar to Samsung S8’s infinity display. The Essential phone comes with Corning Gorilla Glass 5 for display protection.

The Essential Phone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 clubbed with Adreno 540 GPU. The device comes with 4 GB RAM and 128 GB of internal storage. The device does not come with microSD card support but that is not a problem as it already has ample storage.

Coming to the camera department, the Essential Phone features a dual camera setup. It comes with 13 MP Dual RGB + Mono camera with f/1.9 aperture, Phase detection autofocus and laser autofocus. The camera is capable of recording 4K videos @ 30 FPS. On the front, the device sports an 8 MP secondary camera with f/2.2 aperture.

As mentioned earlier, a 360 degree camera can also be attached to the device. It can be purchased for an additional $150. The device comes with 4 microphones for noise cancellation and beam forming.

The Essential Phone is powered by a 3,040 mAh battery with Quick charge support. Connectivity options on the device include 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, NFC and USB Type C.

One of the biggest cons of the device is that it does not feature a 3.5mm audio jack and users will have to use the USB port.

Pricing and Availability

The Essential Phone has been priced at $699. The 360-degree camera has been priced at $150. The device is available in Black Moon, Stellar Grey, Pure White and Ocean Depths color options. It is available for pre-order in the U.S.
