In April, Jio had clocked an average download speed of 18.487 which was 2 Mbps higher than March 2017. However, most of the other 4G service providers saw a fall in download speeds in April. Idea fell from 12.092 Mbps in March to 8.885 Mbps in the next month. Similarly, Airtel dropped from 10.439 Mbps to 9.136 Mbps. Vodafone’s 4G download speed increased in April from 7.933 Mbps to 9.003 Mbps. That is all about April 2017.

Now, in May, Jio stands first with 19.123 Mbps in 4G download speed, Idea as second with 13.709 Mbps, Vodafone as third with 13.387 Mbps and Airtel at last with 10.153 Mbps.

Speaking of upload speeds, the picture is a bit different in May 2017. Here, 8.459 Mbps of Idea is the highest. This is closely followed by Vodafone with 7.333 Mbps. Jio has taken the third position with 5.275 Mbps upload speed, while Airtel has posted the lowest 4.641 Mbps.

The best part is that almost every operator has experienced higher download and upload speeds in the last month. This indicates that the wireless internet quality is gradually improving in India.

Still, the data obtained by TRAI’s MySpeed application may not be the best way to determine the real network speed at any specific location. It just gives us a preliminary idea about average mobile data speeds across the country.
