Physical Overview

The Honor 8 Pro looks like a bigger version of previously launched Honor 8 as it sports the same design. We have the Navy Blue version of Honor 8 Pro for review and it looks really nice.

The Honor 8 Pro feels premium with a delicate matte finish at the back. The notable design feature is its 15-layer glass rear.

The metal unibody with rounded edges and thickness of mere 6.97 mm make the phone easier to hold. That is impressive because it houses a 4000 mAh battery. Honor 8 Pro does not feature a physical Home button. The bezels along the edges of the display are kept to a minimum.

The volume and the power buttons sit on the right edge of the phone.

While the SIM tray placed on the left edge of the smartphone.

The fingerprint sensor resides on the back. Also, one of the highlights of the phone is there on the back – a dual camera setup.

Other than that, the smartphone retains the 3.5mm audio jack and sports the USB Type-C port at the bottom.

Another good thing about Honor 8 Pro’s design is that the dual camera doesn’t bulge out like the one on the OnePlus 5.

Display

The phone features 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with a resolution of 2560×1440 Pixels. It features super-vibrant rich colors, and with pixel density, at 515 PPI the screen is offering great sharpness and comes as a delightful experience.

The display is very touch-responsive and bright enough to use in outdoors. The resolution is quite good for video streaming and playing graphic intensive games.

Honor 8 Pro sports Gorilla Glass 3 on the top, which seems like a compromise with phone along with the waterproof feature. The display is almost bezel-less only with a small band of bezel on the top and bottom of the screen.

Camera

Honor 8 Pro dual camera

The camera is the highlight of the phone and it seems quite impressive. The dual camera setup at the rear is of Leica brand and has one RGB and another monochromatic sensor. Both the RGB and monochrome sensors on the Honor 8 Pro are 12 megapixels and capture well-exposed colors and richness.

The camera clicks amazingly sharp pictures in daylight with great contrast level. The Bokeh effect works really well and provides good depth of field. Honor 8 Pro uses its additional lens to enhance the tones of a shot with the monochrome sensor.

Another good thing about the rear camera is that it can also shoot 4K videos at 30fps. There is a wide aperture mode also for video shooting which lets you adjust the aperture.

Also, at the front, there is an 8MP camera which is also quite impressive. The selfie lovers won’t be disappointed. It has many filters and beauty modes also. However, taking selfies in poor lighting can result in the camera struggle to focus, and offering some very noisy images.

Hardware, Storage, and Performance

The Honor 8 Pro is powered by company’s own Kirin 960 SoC. This is a chipset that is able to stand along with the Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835.

It is coupled with an ample 6GB RAM which is probably more RAM than anyone needs. The phone houses 128GB built-in storage. The internal storage can be further expanded by another 128GB using microSD with the hybrid card slot.

The Honor 8 Pro runs Huawei’s own Android skin Emotion UI, EMUI 5.1, which is based on Android 7.0. This is the best version of Emotion UI seen so far. The phone doesn’t slow down or lag when navigating around on Android 7.0. Also, the apps open without delay and animations & graphics are slick and smooth.

Conclusion

Overall, the Honor 8 Pro feels quite impressive. The phone’s built is very good and it feels premium while holding. Also, if we talk about the hardware the Kirin 960 is a powerful chipset that performs well on heavy usage. The good performing dual camera setup and massive 4000 mAH battery are really nice features.

Going by the features and the price, the phone seems to be a good buy. It will face a tough fight with recently launched OnePlus 5 whose price is starting at Rs. 32,999. It is the most expensive AND most accomplished all-around phone till date from Honor. You can purchase for the flagship experience and premium feel of the phone.

Pricing & Availability

The Honor 8 Pro is priced at Rs. 29,999 in India. The phone is available exclusively on Amazon.in, with the sales starting on 10th July at 6PM for Amazon Prime members.
