Facebook Launches Messenger Lite App For Android Users In India

Facebook has now released the “lite” version of its popular Messenger app in India. Messenger Lite is a lightweight version of the regular Messenger app. The app is targeted for functioning seamlessly on slower connections and low-end Android smartphones.

The Lite version of the app also offers the same core features as Messenger. Messenger Lite is under 10MB of size, so it’s fast to install and quick to access. It is very less in comparison to usual Messenger app on Android which runs more than 50MB.

After launching it last year for some select regions initially, the mini version of Messenger for Android finally comes to India. Messenger Lite has already made its way to 132 countries in April this year.

Messenger Lite is aimed at users with entry-level smartphones. It is ideal for basic Android smartphones, as it takes up fewer resources. Additionally, the app is optimized to work on slow Internet networks, solving the major issue that continues to trouble many users in India.

The slimmed-down version of the app features almost all the Messenger’s core experiences such as messaging, sending and receiving photos and links, and support for stickers. Messenger Lite features the same bolt logo as Messenger, but with reversed color combination.

Messenger Lite is capable of sending texts, photos, and links quickly and easily to anyone using Messenger or Messenger Lite. Also, since voice calling over data is quite popular these days in markets like India, Facebook has retained this feature in Lite version. However, if you want to make video calls, you will have to switch to the regular Messenger app.

This isn’t the first lightweight version of any app from the company. Facebook had already Facebook Lite app back in 2015 for Android users in India. The idea behind that app was also the same, working on devices with poor network conditions. Like Facebook Lite, Messenger Lite is not available for iPhone users.
