Xiaomi Redmi 5 Leak Shows 5″ FHD Display, 4GB RAM And Android 7.1.1 Nougat

Fresh leaks of Xiaomi Redmi 5 have recently surfaced on Weibo. The leaked images show the Redmi 5’s specifications and price. The device is shown with a 5 inch display, 16MP primary camera and 5MP secondary cameras. The device is also showcased with two processor and RAM variants.

These images of Redmi 5 were leaked on Weibo. Earlier this month, similar leaks were seen showcasing the Redmi Note 5, which is a larger model with similar specifications.

According to the leaked slides, the Xiaomi Redmi 5 will come with a 5 inch IPS LCD panel with 1920 x 1080p resolution. The device is showcased featuring a 16MP main camera with single LED flash and a 5 MP front facing unit. It also shows a rear-mounted Fingerprint sensor.

In the hardware department, the leak suggests two processor and RAM variants. One variant comes with a Snapdragon 625 SoC clocked at 2GHz, coupled with 3GB RAM. This variant may come with 16/32GB memory. The other variant is shown with Snapdragon 630 processor, clocked at 2.2GHz with 4GB RAM. This one will have 64GB internal memory. Both variants are said to have expandable storage as well.


Leaks also point at the Xiaomi Redmi 5 coming with Android 7.1.1 Nougat skinned with MIUI 9 on top. MIUI 9 is the latest user interface by Xiaomi. This update of UI is currently rolling out in select Xiaomi devices worldwide.

The Xiaomi Redmi 5 is shown packing a 3,680 mAh battery. The leaks didn’t tell much about connectivity, but we can expect a Hybrid Sim slot where either 2 SIM cards or 1 SIM and 1 microSD card can be used.

Pricing and Availability

The leaked slides don’t suggest a release date but prices have been specified. It has put the 3GB/16GB variant at CNY 859 (Rs. 8,139), 3GB/32GB model at CNY 1,039 (Rs. 9,844) and the 4GB/64GB variant at CNY 1,099 (Rs. 10,413).

Xiaomi’s Redmi series has been of affordable phones with good specifications. With Xiaomi aggressively expanding their ‘Preferred’ stores around India, we can expect the Redmi 5 to hit the Indian market soon after its release. Earlier Redmi phones have also received an overwhelming response from the Indian audience.
