YouTube gets a new design with more controls and a better layout

After 12 years of evolving as a video streaming platform, YouTube has now made some bold changes to its looks and interface. Aimed at making YouTube sleeker and easy to use across devices, this new design brings certain cosmetic changes to the YouTube logo as well.

With the YouTube Android app getting multiple updates with respect to the design, video controls, and browsing, the desktop version has also gained a more cinematic experience and a dark mode. You will spot the changes as you play through the new user interface on YouTube.

YouTube updates

Among the series of updates and appearance changes in the past 12 years, this time YouTube has gone bold with the new logo and functional changes in the user interface. Here we give you an idea of what all has changed.

YouTube Mobile app

As soon as you open the app, you’ll notice the changes in the interface. Firstly, the navigation tabs are at the bottom of the app. Secondly, you get a new Library and Accounts tab for quickly finding what you’re looking for.

When you play a video on the YouTube mobile app now, it will play vertical videos as seamlessly as horizontal ones. Black bars on the sides are not there anymore and you can enjoy full-screen immersion even with Vertical videos.

Video speed is the next notable addition. After already receiving double tap controls for fast forward and rewind, you can now slow down or pace up your videos on the YouTube mobile app. Also, while you watch a video, you can see relevant videos at the bottom of the player with a swipe-up gesture.

Desktop Changes

Coming to the desktop version of YouTube, i.e. the website, you will notice that the YouTube logo has received a change with the word mark and icon placed side-by-side. You can even apply a dark theme on the YouTube website, just like night mode on many apps.

Conclusion

With major design changes and a whole lot of functionality added to the YouTube app and desktop platforms, this new redesign of YouTube should help in improving the user experience. The new layout is cleaner, brings more features and is easier on the eye.
