Samsung announces Gear Sport, Gear Fit2 Pro and Gear IconX at IFA 2017

Samsung Electronics has added three new devices to its wearable portfolio at the IFA 2017. The devices include Gear Sport, a smartwatch; Gear Fit2 Pro, a fitness band and Gear IconX, the cord-free earbuds.

The new wearable Samsung Gear devices are designed to help consumers with a range of activities – from fitness tracking to sleep monitoring and motivational training as a lifestyle companion. All the devices will go on sale from September and later on.

Gear Sport Specifications

First coming to the Gear Sport, it is a stylish smartwatch with a minimalistic design with a circular bezel. Earlier, it was reported that Samsung was going to launch a new smartwatch likely to be called Gear S4. But, the company has launched it as Gear Sport.

It features a Super AMOLED 1.2-inch ‘Always On’ display with a resolution of 360 x 360 and a pixel density of ~302 PPI. The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3. The smartwatch measures 42.9 x 44.6 x 11.6mm in dimension and weighs 50g (without the band).

The Gear Sport is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and packs 768MB RAM and 4GB internal memory. The smartwatch runs Tizen OS. It is compatible with Android phones running Android 4.4, Samsung phone with Android 4.3 or later and iOS devices running iOS 9.0 or later.

Connectivity options on the smartwatch include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.2, GPS/GLONASS, and NFC. You can pay the using Gear Sport via Samsung Pay as well. Sensors onboard the Gear Sport are Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Heart Rate, Ambient Light, and Barometer. It houses a 300mAh Li-ion battery with wireless charging.

It is certified for water resistance in up to 50-meters of water. Moreover, the watch features Speedo’s swimming training app Speedo On. It lets you track key swim metrics including lap count, lap time, stroke type etc.

Gear Sport will be available in Blue and Black color options. It is priced at 349.99 Euros (Rs. 26,700 approx.) and will go on sale in Europe in October.

Gear Fit 2 Pro Specifications

Gear Fit2 Pro is the successor of last year’s Gear Fit 2. It features a 1.5-inch Curved Super AMOLED display like its predecessor. The 216 x 432 pixels resolution offers ~310 PPI pixel density and the display is protected with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection.

Similar to the Gear Sport, the latest fitness wearable is 5 ATM certified for water resistance in up to 50-meters. It also has the swimming training app Speedo that lets you track key swim metrics.

The fitness band runs Tizen OS and is compatible with Android phones running Android 4.4 or later and Apple devices running iOS 9.0 or later. Gear Fit 2 pro is powered by a 1GHz dual-core processor and packs 512 MB RAM and 4GB internal storage. It also features a standalone music player.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 4.2, Wi-Fi b/g/n, and GPS/GLONASS. It has sensors including Accelerometer, Gyro, HRM, and Barometer.

The fitness band measures 51.3 x 25.0 mm and weighs 34g or 33g. It is powered by a 200mAh battery providing up to 5 days of battery life with occasional use and 3 to 4 days with an average use.

The Samsung Gear Fit2 Pro comes in Black and Red color options in small and large sizes. It is priced at $199 (Rs. 12,730 approx.) and will go on sale starting from September 15th.

Gear IconX Specifications

Samsung also announced IconX 2018 wireless earbuds at ongoing IFA event. The next generation earbuds are very much similar to its predecessor that was launched last year.

The earbuds measure 18.9 x 21.8 x 22.8 mm and weigh 8 grams each. Each earbud has 4GB of internal memory that allows you to store music. It supports Bluetooth 4.2 and is compatible with smartphones running Android 4.4 or later with RAM 1.5 GB or above. Connectivity options include USB 2.0 and a Type-C port.

One of the notable features of the earbuds is, it comes with Bixby support. So, basically, you can use your voice to control your music or your phone with just a simple tap and hold of the earbud.

Moreover, it comes with an improved battery life and supports fast-charging. It is said to offer up to five hours of music streaming or seven hours of standalone music playback. The earbud is powered by an 82mAh battery and it comes with a carrying case that includes its own 340 mAh battery.

The updated design of earbuds comes in Black, Gray and Pink color options. The Samsung Gear IconX will be available by November 2017 for 229.99 Euros (Rs. 17,500 approx.).
