Samsung launches T5 portable SSD starting at Rs. 13,500 in India

Samsung has launched a new portable SSD, the T5 in India. This has the same compact design as last year’s T3 but offers up to 540 MB/s transfer speed. The T5 features a full metal body, unlike its predecessor that had plastic caps.

Samsung had already unveiled the device earlier this month, and today it has launched it in India. It will be available in four storage variants. The device is available at all major retail outlets with pricing starting from Rs. 13,500. It is compatible with PCs, Macs as well as Android smartphones and tablets.

Samsung T5 Portable SSD Specifications

The SSD T5 sports a metal body built on a shock-resistant internal frame and thus it is highly durable. It is also compact providing great handling and portability. It measures 74 x 57.3 x 10.5 mm and weighs just 51 grams.

It is built on Samsung’s latest 64-layer V-NAND technology. The device also features AES 256-bit hardware encryption to protect the data.

It uses USB 3.1 Gen 2 (10Gbps) interface and provides an incredible transfer speed up to 540MB/s. The device comes with two connection cables – USB-C to C and USB-C to A. It offers easy data transfer across multiple OSs. It requires Windows 7 or higher, Mac OS 10.9 or higher and Android 4.4 or higher.

Prices and Availability

The SSD T5 comes in four storage variants, i.e. 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, and 2TB. The 250GB is priced at Rs. 13,500, while the 500GB costs 21,000. The 1TB and 2TB variants are priced at Rs. 40,000, and Rs. 80,000 respectively.

Commenting on the launch, Sukesh Jain, Vice President, IT & Mobile Enterprise Business, Samsung India, said,

”At Samsung, we work towards delivering meaningful innovations and the Portable SSD T5 continues our legacy of leadership and innovation. We are confident that the T5 will exceed consumers’ expectations for external storage by offering 4.9 times faster speeds than external HDD products and a solid metal design that is lightweight and conveniently pocket-sized.”
