JioPhone bookings cross 6 million, delivery to start from September 21

According to reports, more than 6 million bookings have been made for the JioPhone, and an additional 10 million people have registered for the feature phone. Talking about the delivery of the phone, it will start from September 21.

The pre-orders for JioPhone started on August 24. The bookings were halted due to excess-demand, though it resumed later on. The company claimed that millions of units had already been booked. Now, it is revealed that Jio Phone bookings crossed 6 million units within a day. At the launch, Reliance Jio said it was aiming to deliver 5 million units of the phone to the public every week.

The company is planning to start the JioPhone deliveries from September 21. The JioPhone bookings are currently closed. However, the customers can still continue to register their interest on the Jio website. They will be notified on a priority basis when the booking process starts again.

Reliance Jio unveiled the 4G feature phone back in July at its AGM. The company announced that it would be given to consumers for free, but Rs. 1,500 as a security deposit would be needed. The consumers can get the deposit back after returning the phone after a period of 3 years. The 4G feature phone comes with an pan of Rs. 153 per month, providing free calls as well as unlimited data.

If we talk about the specifications of the 4G VoLTE feature phone, it has a 2.4-inch QVGA (240×320 pixels) display. The JioPhone is powered by a 1.2GHz dual core processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB of internal storage, which is expandable up to up to 128GB with microSD support.

The JioPhone has a 2 MP rear camera along with a front VGA camera to make video calls as well. Moreover, you will get Wi-Fi support, Bluetooth, and NFC for digital payments. The single SIM handset is running on KAI OS and houses a 2000mAh battery.

The JioPhone features further include support for 22 regional Indian languages and a voice assistant called as HelloJio. Another highlight of the phone is you can connect the phone to the TV using a Jio cable. The JioPhone will come preloaded with its in-house apps such as JioCinema, JioMusic, JioTV, and JioXpressNews, along with some popular messaging and social networking apps.
