Motorola Moto X4 may soon be launched as an Android One device

Xiaomi recently launched an Android One device, dubbed as the Mi A1. And now, leaks suggest that Lenovo-owned Motorola is working on an Android One device. However, the leaks suggest that instead of launching a new device, the company will re-launch the Moto X4 as an Android One device.

Evan Blass, a leakster has posted an image of the Motorola Moto X4 with ‘Android One’ branding at the back on twitter. This will be the first time that an Android One phone will make it to the US market as Android One device as usually restricted to developing countries such as India.

An Android One device from Motorola is interesting as the company already ships their device with a near stock Android experience. Apart from a few of Motorola’s apps, the Moto devices do not come with other pre-installed apps. If this leak turns out to be true, the device will come with even fewer pre-installed apps and faster updates directly from Google.

What is Android One?

Android One is a program from Google to provide a smooth Android experience even for devices with low-end specifications. The Android One devices come with the latest stock Android version and are free of bloatware. Apart from this, the devices receive two years of Android updates directly from Google.

So this means that a device that is a part of the Android One Program will be receiving timely updates directly from Google and that too for 2 years. So far, there were no major ODMs working with Android One, but after the recently launched Xiaomi Mi A1, other companies may also be interested in it.
