Last month, Motorola announced the latest smartphone in the Moto X series, the Moto X. It is one of the first few Motorola phones to feature a dual camera setup, and comes with water resistance and a premium looking design. At the launch, Motorola revealed that the phone comes with Alexa voice assistant, but the Android One variant launched today may not come with this feature.
The Lenovo-owned company has priced the Moto X at $399 in the USA. It is scheduled to be launched in India on October 3 around Rs. 25,000. For the US market, the Moto X4 will be available on Google‘s Project Fi, making it the first non-Google smartphone in the Project Fi program.
Moto X4 Specifications
The Moto X4 is the eighth phone to be launched by Motorola this year. With this, Motorola is trying to fix the gap between Moto G series and Moto Z series smartphones. Starting with the build here, you get a Glass back on the Moto X4. The shiny back is accompanied by an equally shinier front with a fingerprint sensor below the display.
Sporting a 5.2-inch Full HD IPS LCD display, the Moto X4 has a pixel density of ~424 PPI. In the camera department, it packs a dual camera setup comprising of a 12MP primary camera and an 8MP wide angle camera with dual LED flash. A front camera of 16MP is also given for selfies and video calling.
Packing a Snapdragon 630 processor, clocked at up to 2.2 GHz, the Moto X4 comes in two variants with 3GB RAM with 32GB of internal storage, and 4GB RAM with 64GB of internal storage. Both variants will support microSD card up to 2TB.
Packing a 3,000 mAh battery, the Moto X4 comes with Water resistance. For connectivity options, it has a USB Type-C port, a 3.5mm earphone jack, Bluetooth, and WiFi.
Expanding the Android One program
With the Moto X4 and the Xiaomi Mi A1, Google is expanding its Android One program from low and entry level smartphones to the mid and upper mid-ranges. While both the Moto X4 and the Mi A1 come with fairly similar specs in some aspects, the difference in their prices is a clear indication that the Android One program will now operate up to upper mid-range as well.
With the Moto X4 all set to launch in India on October 3rd, it remains to be seen whether Motorola and Google launch an Android One variant as well. Even otherwise, the Moto X4 could be a good option for those looking for a mid-range smartphone with clean, stock Android software.
